Quantitative [(123)I]FP-CIT pinhole SPECT imaging predicts striatal dopamine levels, but not number of nigral neurons in different mouse models of Parkinson's disease.

Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) using [(123)I]FP-CIT as radioligand for the dopamine transporter has become a widely used tool to monitor the integrity of the nigrostriatal dopaminergic projection in Parkinson's disease (PD). Previous studies with pinhole SPECT in small animals have demonstrated that the striatal [(123)I]FP-CIT binding indeed correlates with the striatal dopamine transporter protein level. It is unclear, however, if there is a stable relationship between the striatal [(123)I]FP-CIT binding and other functionally important parameters of the nigrostriatal system, such as the striatal dopamine levels and the number of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra.

Prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections with immuno-active E. coli fractions: a meta-analysis of five placebo-controlled double-blind studies.

A meta-analysis was performed on five studies conducted over the last decade to demonstrate a positive effect for the drug Uro-Vaxom compared with Placebo in double-blind studies in patients with urinary tract infection (601 women), with special reference to the prevention of recurrences over an observation period of 6 months, the treatment being given for the first 3 months. The five studies were similar in design. The analysis by means of the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test showed superiority of Uro-Vaxom in all five studies, (P<1%).

Immunostimulation by bacterial components: II. Efficacy studies and meta-analysis of the bacterial extract OM-89.

The bacterial extract OM-89 (Uro-Vaxom) consisting of immunostimulating components derived from 18 Escherichia coli strains is used for the treatment of recurrent urinary tract infections. We investigated in the mouse the immunogenicity of the bacterial extract after oral administration. After repeated administration of OM-89, a specific serum IgG and IgA response against a number of bacterial strains was obtained.

[Antazoline/tetryzoline eyedrops in comparison with levocabastine eyedrops in acute allergic conjunctivitis].

Background: Allergic conjunctivitis is one of the most frequent allergic diseases of the anterior eye segment.

Methods: This multicentre, clinical trial was an investigation to compare the antiallergic efficacy, local tolerance and safety of Antazolin/Tetryzolin eye drops and Levocabastine eye drops. 69 patients were treated over a 2 weeks course of therapy.
