The ketogenic diet (KD) has been shown to be effective in treating various brain pathologies. In this study, we conducted detailed transcriptomic and metabolomic profiling of rat brains after KD and ischemic stroke in order to investigate the effects of KD and its underlying mechanisms. We evaluated the effect of a two-month KD on gene expression in intact brain tissue and after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO).

To date, the molecular mechanisms of the common neurodegenerative disorder Parkinson's disease (PD) are unknown and, as a result, there is no neuroprotective therapy that may stop or slow down the process of neuronal cell death. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the prospects of using the mTOR molecule as a potential target for PD therapy due to the dose-dependent effect of mTOR kinase activity inhibition on cellular parameters associated with, PD pathogenesis. The study used peripheral blood monocyte-derived macrophages and SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cell line.

Recent data suggest a possible functional interaction between GCase and LRRK2 and their involvement in sphingolipid metabolism. The aim of the present study was to describe the clinical course and evaluate the lysosomal enzyme activities and sphingolipid concentrations in blood of patients with PD associated with dual mutations p.

The measurement of acylcarnitines by MS/MS is a current diagnostic workup in these disorders. Nevertheless, false-positive and false-negative results have been reported, highlighting a necessity for more sensitive and specific biomarkers.
