Background: Fabry disease is an under-recognized X-linked lysosomal storage disorder characterized by the accumulation of trihexosylceramides in multifarious tissues, leading to end-organ damage, including progressive renal failure. Antecedent screening studies worldwide have shown inconsistent prevalence in the hemodialysis population.
