The study looked at bacteria called Klebsiella pneumoniae that are resistant to a drug combination called ceftazidime/avibactam, found in a hospital’s Intensive Care Unit in Italy.
Researchers used special tests to see how the bacteria behave and found a new version of a resistance gene called blaKPC-166.
They discovered that this new gene can be shared between bacteria, which could make it easier for these resistant strains to spread, so it’s important to stop them from spreading in hospitals.
