Miniature fluorescence microscopes (miniscopes) are one of the most powerful and versatile tools for recording large scale neural activity in freely moving rodents with single cell resolution. Recent advances in the design of genetically encoded calcium indicators (GECIs) allow to target distinct neuronal populations with non-overlapping emission spectral profiles. This article aims to define the clinical, radiological, and pathological characteristics of non-resorbed oxidised cellulose-induced pseudotumours to raise awareness among surgeons and radiologists, to prevent misdiagnosis, and avoid unnecessary invasive procedures and delays in adjuvant oncological treatments. A systematic review of oxidised resorbable cellulose (ORC)-induced pseudotumours of the head and neck was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines.
