Article Synopsis
  • REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD) is linked to an increased risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's and dementia, prompting a study of autonomic dysfunction in RBD patients.* -
  • The study used advanced methods to analyze sleep patterns and heart rate variability, revealing that RBD patients generally experience lower heart rate variability and are more likely to transition to lighter sleep stages.* -
  • Although RBD patients suffer from fragmented sleep and autonomic issues, those with Parkinson's displayed better sleep continuity, potentially due to relief from their PD symptoms during sleep.*

Study Objectives: Sleep disorders have been recognized as an integral component of the clinical syndrome in several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's Disease (AD). However, limited data exists for rarer types of neurodegenerative diseases, such as behavioral variant Frontotemporal Dementia (bvFTD). This study aims to analyze EEG power spectra and sleep stage transitions in bvFTD patients, hypothesizing that bvFTD may show distinctive sleep stage transitions compared to patients with Alzheimer's Disease (AD).

Limbs with normal venous function, incomplete scans, or that were affected by post-thrombotic syndrome, pelvic reflux, isolated perforator reflux, venous malformation, phlebolymphedema and Clinical, Etiological, Anatomical, Pathophysiological clinical class C5 and C6 were excluded from the final analysis.
