This work describes an innovative catalytic process for aqueous trimethoprim degradation, using a fixed-bed continuous flow reactor packed with a manganese(III) -substituted porphyrin covalently immobilized functionalized aminopropyl silica gel as the catalyst and HO as a green oxidant. It exhibits remarkable activity and stability, maintaining its performance over extended periods (up to 8 hours) and achieving significant reductions in total organic carbon (TOC = 80%). Importantly, microbiological assays confirmed that this degradation process effectively converts trimethoprim into non-resistance-inducing products.

Article Synopsis
  • * Elderly women are particularly affected by CHF, exhibiting unique clinical traits and often maintaining better heart function due to specific health issues.
  • * Current noninvasive monitoring technologies for CHF patients are lacking, and while invasive remote sensors are being tested, implantable devices may not be practical for most patients; new technologies and clinical trials are needed to improve monitoring methods.

In this work, multicomponent trimethoprim-based pharmaceutical solid systems were developed by mechanochemistry, using coformers from the GRAS list and other active pharmaceutical ingredients. The choice of coformers took into account their potential to increase the aqueous solubility/dissolution rate of TMP or its antibacterial activity. All the binary systems were characterized by thermal analysis, powder X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy, and 3 equimolar systems with FTIR pointing to salts, and 4 eutectic mixtures were identified.

Objectives: The first aim of this study was to assess the predictive power of Tend interval (Te) and non-invasive hemodynamic markers, based on bioimpedance in decompensated chronic heart failure (CHF). The second one was to verify the possible differences in repolarization and hemodynamic data between CHF patients grouped by level of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Finally, we wanted to check if repolarization and hemodynamic data changed with clinical improvement or worsening in CHF patients.

Antibiotics development during the last century permitted unprecedent medical advances. However, it is undeniable that there has been an abuse and misuse of antimicrobials in medicine and cosmetics, food production and food processing, in the last decades. The pay toll for human development and consumism is the emergence of extended antimicrobial resistance and omnipresent contamination of the biosphere.
