Computational enzymology for degradation of chemical warfare agents: promising technologies for remediation processes.

Chemical weapons are a major worldwide problem, since they are inexpensive, easy to produce on a large scale and difficult to detect and control. Among the chemical warfare agents, we can highlight the organophosphorus compounds (OP), which contain the phosphorus element and that have a large number of applications. They affect the central nervous system and can lead to death, so there are a lot of works in order to design new effective antidotes for the intoxication caused by them.

QSAR Models Guided by Molecular Dynamics Applied to Human Glucokinase Activators.

In this study, quantitative structure-activity relationship studies which make use of molecular dynamics trajectories were performed on a set of 54 glucokinase protein activators. The conformations obtained by molecular dynamics simulation were superimposed according to the twelve alignments tested in a virtual three-dimensional box comprised of 2 Å cells. The models were generated by the technique that combines genetic algorithms and partial least squares.

[Non-invasive brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease].

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a major socio-economic burden increasing with the aging population. In advanced PD, the emergence of symptoms refractory to conventional therapy poses a therapeutic challenge. The success of deep brain stimulation (DBS) and advances in the understanding of the pathophysiology of PD have raised interest in non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) as an alternative therapeutic tool.

Purification and identification of metabolites produced by Bacillus cereus and B. subtilis active against Meloidogyne exigua, and their in silico interaction with a putative phosphoribosyltransferase from M. incognita.

To contribute to the development of products to control Meloidogyne exigua, the bacteria Bacillus cereus and B. subtilis were cultivated in liquid medium to produce metabolites active against this plant-parasitic nematode. Fractionation of the crude dichloromethane extracts obtained from the cultures afforded uracil, 9H-purine and dihydrouracil.

Body mass index, lifestyles, physical performance and cognitive decline: the "Treviso Longeva (TRELONG)" study.

Objectives: The relative contributions of risk factors, as body mass index (BMI), depression, chronic diseases, smoking, and lifestyles (as physical and performance activity, social contacts and reading habit) to cognitive decline in the elderly are unclear. We explored these variables in relation to 7-year cognitive decline in long-lived Italian elderly.

Design: Secondary data analysis of a longitudinal study of a representative, age-stratified, population sample.
