Objective: To describe composite 30-day postoperative complication rates among patients undergoing hysterectomy during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and to determine baseline and postoperative mental health symptoms, levels of social support, and socioeconomic status and their association with hysterectomy outcomes.
Methods: This multicenter prospective cohort study at eight centers across the United States enrolled patients who underwent minimally invasive hysterectomy for benign indications during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patients completed preoperative and postoperative surveys assessing mental health (PHQ-9 [Patient Health Questionnaire]), social support (MOS-SS [Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey]), and socioeconomic status (Hollingshead Index [Hollingshead Four Factor Index of Socioeconomic Status]).
Background: Patients who do not achieve positive outcomes with custom ethylene-vinyl-acetate (EVA) foot orthoses will often be escalated to other services for treatment, which may include surgery.
Objective: This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of custom hard-shell 3D-printed foot orthoses for patients who did not respond to treatment with custom EVA foot orthoses and were being considered for treatment escalation.
Design: An eight-week clinical evaluation and a two-year review of relevant medical records.
Meta-analyses traditionally compare the difference in means between groups for one or more outcomes of interest. However, they do not compare the spread of data (variability), which could mean that important effects and/or subgroups are missed. To address this, methods to compare variability meta-analytically have recently been developed, making it timely to review them and consider their strengths, weaknesses, and implementation.
