Obstructive Sleep Apnea Associated With Increased Failure Rate of Ptosis Repair.

Purpose: This study investigates how Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects the outcomes of ptosis repair. We hypothesized that patients with OSA have an increased rate of reoperation after ptosis repair.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients age >18 from the Mayo Clinic who underwent ptosis repair by levator advancement or Müller muscle-conjunctiva resection between 2018 and 2021.

Gender Bias and Ophthalmology Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Milestones Evaluations.

Importance: Women remain underrepresented in ophthalmology and gender-based disparities exist in salary, grant receipt, publication rates, and surgical volume throughout training and in practice. Although studies in emergency medicine and general surgery showed mixed findings regarding gender differences in Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Milestones ratings, limited data exist examining such differences within ophthalmology.

Background And Purpose: Deep learning contouring (DLC) has the potential to decrease contouring time and variability of organ contours. This work evaluates the effectiveness of DLC for prostate and head and neck across four radiotherapy centres using a commercial system.

Materials And Methods: Computed tomography scans of 123 prostate and 310 head and neck patients were evaluated.

Relationship Between the American Board of Ophthalmology Maintenance of Certification Program and Actions Against the Medical License.

Purpose: To evaluate the likelihood of disciplinary actions against medical licenses of ophthalmologists who maintained board certification through successful completion of the American Board of Ophthalmology Maintenance of Certification program compared with ophthalmologists who did not maintain certification.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of ophthalmologists certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology from 1992 to 2012 with time-limited certificates. Rates and severity of disciplinary actions against medical licenses were analyzed among ophthalmologists who did and did not maintain certification.
