Successful Treatment of Aortic Coarctation in an Extremely Low Birth Weight Infant with Balloon Angioplasty.

In our case report, we present a case of successful antegrade balloon angioplasty performed via the femoral vein on a 980-gram neonate with severe coarctation of the aorta. Upon reviewing the literature, we found no cases of balloon angioplasty for coarctation performed via the femoral vein in infants with a lower birth weight than in our case. Our aim is to underline that each patient may require individual evaluation and management options.

Varicella-Zoster Virus Reactivation After Pediatric Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, Single-Center Experience of Acyclovir Prophylaxis.

Background: Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) reactivation is the most common infectious complication in the late posthematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) period and is reported as 16%-41%. Acyclovir prophylaxis is recommended for at least 1 year after HSCT to prevent VZV infections. However, studies on the most appropriate prophylaxis are ongoing in pediatric patients.

Evaluation of the Efficiency of the Graft Material Combined with Ozonized Blood in Maxillary Sinus Lifting Applications in Rabbits.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the graft material combined with ozonized blood on bone healing in rabbit in maxillary sinus lifting applications histomorphometrically, immunohistochemically and microtomographically.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-eight New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 2 groups as experimental ( = 14) and control ( = 14). In experimental group, 5 ml (milliliter) blood obtained from the ear vein of each rabbit was ozonized by 80 µl (µl)/ml concentration ozone-oxygen mixture.

Evaluation of laparoscopic transperitoneal adrenalectomy: is it feasible for large masses?

Aim: The aim of this paper was to determine whether laparoscopic adrenalectomy (LA) is a safe and effective treatment for the management of large adrenal tumors.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the data of patients who underwent LA at our institution between September 2002 and September 2012. Seventy-six transperitoneal LA were performed by the same surgical team.

Homocysteine levels after nitrous oxide anesthesia for living-related donor renal transplantation: a randomized, controlled, double-blind study.

Background: Nitrous oxide anesthesia increases postoperative homocysteine concentrations. Renal transplantation candidates present with higher homocysteine levels than patients with no renal disease. We designed this study to investigate if homocysteine levels are higher in subjects receiving nitrous oxide for renal transplantation compared with subjects undergoing nitrous oxide free anesthesia.
