Psychosomatic illness is an illness of ego-structure as a result of a narcissistic deficit reassembling the phenomenology of anaclitic depression in regard to the mother and the primary group. Psychosomatic illness has to be understood on a scale of ego-illnesses related to identity defects. The psychosomatic symptom restitutes the integration of the personality and constitutes the identity of a psychosomatic patient.
