Background: Cooling towers containing Legionella spp are a high-risk source of Legionnaires' disease outbreaks. Manually locating cooling towers from aerial imagery during outbreak investigations requires expertise, is labour intensive, and can be prone to errors. We aimed to train a deep learning computer vision model to automatically detect cooling towers that are aerially visible.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines how effective social media is for spreading research evidence to health and social care practitioners, and assesses differences in effectiveness among various platforms and strategies.* -
  • The researchers reviewed 50 articles published between 2010 and 2023, focusing on elements like reach, engagement, direct dissemination, and overall impact of social media interventions in this context.* -
  • Results showed that social media interventions generally had a positive impact on dissemination metrics, though the degree of effectiveness varied across studies, with many different research designs being used.*

Article Synopsis
  • Pain management in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) remains a significant issue, with many patients still experiencing pain despite treatment with DMARDs and biologics; this study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of comprehensive pain assessments in RA patients on these treatments.* -
  • Conducted as an open-label, randomized trial, the study found that while participant recruitment was lower than expected—mostly due to COVID-19—pain assessments were practical and showed improvements in pain scores over 12 months.* -
  • Feedback indicated that some pain assessment questionnaires were too long and repetitive, but the overall study met its goals, demonstrating the potential for further research on pain management strategies in RA.*

Background: Effective dissemination of research to health and social care practitioners enhances clinical practice and evidence-based care. Social media use has potential to facilitate dissemination to busy practitioners.

Objective: This is a protocol for a systematic review that will quantitatively synthesize evidence of the effectiveness of social media, compared with no social media, for dissemination of research evidence to health and social care practitioners.

Liner overpressure is a quantitative variable indicating the extent to which the vacuum difference across the liner during phase d (the liner compression phase) of milking machine pulsation exceeds the vacuum difference that would be just sufficient to stop milk flow from the teat. Previously defined methods of determining liner overpressure have required modifications to the milking machine, complex instrumentation, or both. Our method of measuring derived overpressure (OP) offers relatively simple instrumentation and realistic milking machine characteristics.
