Purpose: The aim of this registry was to assess technical success, procedural safety and mid- to long-term follow-up results of the Silk Vista "Mama" (SVM) flow diverter (BALT, Montmorency, France) for the treatment of proximal intracranial aneurysms.

Methods: Between August 2020 and March 2022, data from nine Italian neurovascular centres were collected. Data included patients' clinical presentation, aneurysms' size, location and status, technical details, overall complications and mid- to long-term angiographic follow-up.

Article Synopsis
  • SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia can lead to long-term effects like pulmonary fibrosis, and the study explores the Enhanced Liver Fibrosis (ELF) score as a potential biomarker for this condition.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 129 patients who underwent chest CT scans, lung function tests, and blood analysis three months after being discharged from the hospital.
  • The results showed that patients with abnormal lung scans and impaired lung function tended to have higher ELF scores, suggesting that the ELF score could help identify those at risk for pulmonary fibrosis following COVID-19 pneumonia.

Hemangioblastomas (HBs) are highly vascularized, slow-growing, rare benign tumors (WHO grade I). They account for about 2% of intracranial neoplasms; however, they are the most common primary cerebellar tumors in adults. Another frequent seat is the spinal cord (2-10% of primary spinal cord tumors).

Background: Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is characterized by reduced serum levels of the AAT protein and predisposes to liver and lung disease. The characterization at structural level of novel pathogenic SERPINA1 mutants coding for circulating AAT could provide novel insights into the mechanisms of AAT misfolding. The present study aimed to provide a practical framework for the identification and analysis of new AAT mutations, combining structural simulations and clinical data.

Despite the increasing popularity of flow diverters (FDs) as an endovascular option for intracranial aneurysms, the treatment of complex aneurysms still represents a challenge. Combined strategies using a flow-preservation bypass could be considered in selected cases. In this study, we retrospectively reviewed our series of patients with complex intracranial aneurysms submitted to bypass.
