The sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectins (Siglecs) are a family of receptors expressed widely on cells of the hematopoietic system. Siglecs recognize terminal sialic acid residues on glycans and often initiate intracellular signaling upon ligation. Cells can express several Siglec family members concurrently with each showing differential specificities for sialic acid linkages to the underlying glycan as well as varied hydroxyl substitutions, allowing these receptors to fine tune downstream responses.

This pilot randomized controlled trial evaluated impacts of a novel shared activities intervention designed to promote positive parent-child interactions, which may function as an alternative reinforcer to food. The 4-week, at-home Play With Me intervention combines didactic parenting videos and play kits with materials for parent-child activities to practice skills. Aims of the present study were to examine the intervention's acceptability and its effects on parenting and the relative reinforcing value (RRV) of food versus parent-child activity at post-intervention.

Penaeus paulensis (pink shrimp) is an important resource for small-scale fisheries in the brackish coastal lagoons of Uruguay. No viral diseases have been detected in shrimp populations in the Uruguayan territory. The presence of viral pathogens, such as White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) and Infectious Hypodermal Haematopoietic Necrosis Virus (IHHNV) in wild shrimp populations has been previously reported in Brazil and Argentina.
