Before fertilization, spermatozoa must undergo calcium-regulated acrosome exocytosis in response to physiological stimuli such as progesterone and zona pellucida. Our laboratory has elucidated the signaling cascades accomplished by different sphingolipids during human sperm acrosomal exocytosis. Recently, we established that ceramide increases intracellular calcium by activating various channels and stimulating the acrosome reaction.

Background: Stress and elevated cortisol levels have negative effects on fertility, although there is controversy about the effect of cortisol on human sperm. One study reported that hydrocortisone (HC), the synthetic form of cortisol, does not activate CatSper channel but is able to inhibit its activation by progesterone (Pg). However, subsequent reports showed that HC has an agonist effect on CatSper, producing intracellular Ca ([Ca ] ) increases.

Introduction: Nerve conduction studies (NCS) have been considered as the gold standard in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) diagnosis, despite correlation between clinical symptomatology and NCS severity has shown to be poor. In fact, clinical symptoms precede NCS changes in months or years. Few papers have been published about the clinical response to treatment of clinically typical CTS, but with normal NCS (NNCS).

Children's performance in arithmetic word problems (AWPs) predicts their academic success and their future employment and earnings in adulthood. Understanding the nature and difficulties of interpreting and solving AWPs is important for theoretical, educational, and social reasons. We investigated the relation between primary school children's performance in different types of AWPs and their basic cognitive abilities (reading comprehension, fluid intelligence, inhibition, and updating processes).

Objective: To assess the PTS method in neuromonitoring of thoracic pedicle screws in a young cohort of AIS patients. The accuracy of both PTS (Pulse-train stimulation) and SPS (Single-pulse stimulation) techniques in the detection of misplaced thoracic screws was compared with special reference to the screws placed at the concavity and the convexity of the curve.

Patients And Methods: A single-center prospective clinical cohort study.
