Article Synopsis
  • Cardiac arrests in the catheterization laboratory (CCL) are rare but increasingly serious, prompting a study using in situ simulation (ISS) to identify safety issues in airway management.
  • Researchers conducted three cycles of a quality improvement process (PDSA) throughout 2021, identifying 101 latent safety threats (LSTs) and measuring improvements using the SAFER-Matrix.
  • The results showed a significant reduction in the SAFER score, indicating fewer airway-related threats and a correlation between communication issues and increased time for intubation.

Background: Interleukin 6 (IL-6), a marker of inflammation, is one of the major cytokines released during joint replacement. In the orthopedic patient population, high levels have been linked to many adverse effects including acute respiratory distress syndrome, postoperative mental status changes, and fever. We looked to assess the efficacy of low-dose steroids on the postinflammatory response as measured by IL-6 in patients undergoing bilateral total knee replacement (BTKR).

The aim of the study was to evaluate the peculiarities of local left and right ventricular myocardial contractility in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and various degrees of chronic heart failure (CHF) using biventricular radioventriculography (RVG). Local left and right ventricular myocardial contractility was evaluated in 127 patients with CHD and CHF using RVG with a standard procedure of segmentary and phase histogram analysis. The patients were divided into two groups according to left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).
