Achievements of perioperative assist team medical care in esophageal cancer surgery, Tokushima University Hospital.

Background: Radical esophagectomy is highly invasive and associated with many postoperative complications. A decline in postoperative QOL is a serious issue for patients, and comprehensive perioperative management through multidisciplinary cooperation is necessary. Our institution has established a perioperative assist team (OPERA) to address this need since 2017.

A case of laparoscopic spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy for small solid pseudopapillary neoplasm in an adult male with anomalous splenic vein confluence.

Although anomalies of the celiac and/or superior mesenteric arteries are occasionally encountered during abdominal surgery, anomalous venous confluence is seldom reported during pancreatic surgery. Herein, we present a rare case of laparoscopic spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy (LSPDP) for the treatment of a solid pseudopapillary neoplasm in an asymptomatic 37-year-old male with an anomalous splenic vein (SpV) confluence. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) revealed an anomaly of the SpV, which coursed transversely through the superior border of the pancreas, over the celiac artery and into the portal vein, along the superior line of the common hepatic artery.

Surgical training in extended sleeve lobectomy with fresh-frozen human cadavers: a case report.

Background: Extended sleeve lobectomy is a useful technique for avoiding pneumonectomy; however, it requires advanced surgical skills.

Case Presentation: Herein, we report the case of a 67-year-old male, who presented with locally advanced lung adenocarcinoma in the left lower lobe and was scheduled to undergo extended sleeve lobectomy (left lower lobectomy + lingulectomy). In order to complete this operation safely, we practiced the procedure on fresh-frozen human cadavers 2 weeks before the surgery.

Surgical resection of micronodular thymic carcinoma with lymphoid hyperplasia: a case report.

Background: Micronodular thymic carcinoma with lymphoid hyperplasia is an extremely rare thymic tumor, exhibiting a variety of cell morphologies with mild to severe dysmorphism. Since few cases have been reported, the prognosis of this disease is unclear.

Case Presentation: A 55-year-old woman was referred to our hospital with an anterior mediastinal tumor.
