Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) degradation via autophagy is a process that maintains ER homeostasis when cells are in a state of stress and is associated with many diseases; however, the role of hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α)-mediated ER degradation and the related regulatory pathway in acute kidney injury (AKI) still needs to be further established. In the present study, an AKI model was induced in mice via the ischemia-reperfusion (IR) method. The results revealed that HIF-1α and BNIP3 were increased, and autophagy and ER degradation were activated in the kidneys of AKI mice, whereas HIF-1α knockout significantly inhibited BNIP3, autophagy and ER degradation, accompanied by aggravated kidney injury.

Methods: One hundred eighty patients with lupus nephritis were enrolled in the study and the integrity of Bowman's capsule was assessed.
We previously showed that the rupture of Bowman's capsule (BC) promotes the progression of crescentic glomerulonephritis by enhancing the entry of CD8 T cells into the glomeruli. In the present study, we utilized digital spatial profiling to simultaneously profile the altered abundances of the messenger RNA (mRNA) transcripts and proteins in the glomerular and periglomerular areas of four biopsy samples of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody-associated glomerulonephritis (ANCA-GN) and two biopsy specimens of minimal change disease (MCD) controls. The paraffin-embedded biopsy samples were stained with collagen IV, CD45, and SYTO 13 to distinguish the glomeruli with periglomerular infiltration but intact BC, with focal BC rupture, and with extensive rupture of BC and glomeruli without crescent formation and leukocytic infiltration in ANCA-GN.

Background: The Oxford classification of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) was revised in 2016 which lacked sufficient evidence for prognostic value of subclassification of focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (S lesion), and the proper proportion of S lesion for subclassification remains undetermined.
Aim: This study aimed to explore the predictive value of the new subclassification of S score on renal outcomes of IgAN patients.
Methods: 348 patients with IgAN-associated S lesion were enrolled.
Background: Glomerular disease patients have a high risk of infection, which contributes to the progression of disease per se and mortality, especially in those with long-term use of glucocorticoids and (or) immunosuppressive agents. Cases of sporadic nocardiosis have been reported in glomerular disease patients, and this observation was conducted to comprehensively understand the manifestations of and treatments for nocardiosis, which is commonly misdiagnosed as pneumonia or tuberculosis or even as lung cancer or metastatic tumors in glomerular disease patients.
Methods: We reviewed the demographic characteristics, laboratory abnormalities, radiological features, and treatments of 7 patients with nocardiosis and glomerular disease receiving steroids and immunosuppression therapy at the nephrology department of the Second Xiangya Hospital between 2012 and 2019.
