Objective: To study the reliability and effectiveness of the percutaneous sperm retrieval technique.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the records of 123 consecutive patients with obstructive azoospermia who underwent percutaneous sperm retrieval and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) using Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESA) with or without a rescue Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA). We compared patients who had the first sperm retrieval ever and patients who had more than one sperm retrieval performed.

A qualitative study of patient and family experiences in adolescents with varicoceles: A focus on fertility, self-esteem, and sexual function.

Background: A varicocele is an abnormal dilation of the pampiniform plexus of veins in the scrotum that commonly affects postpubertal males. The condition has been associated with male infertility, testicular hypotrophy, and pain. However, the clinical experiences of adolescent patients and their families regarding the evaluation, surveillance, and management of varicoceles have not been previously examined.

Semen static oxidation-reduction potential is not helpful in evaluating male fertility.

Background: Infertility affects a significant percentage of couples worldwide, with male infertility contributing substantially in a considerable number of cases. Research indicates that oxidative stress is a critical factor impacting male fertility.

Recurrence of fusocellular subtype GIST with SDHB mutation: A case of SDHB-loss and therapeutic challenges.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are sarcomas affecting the stomach and small intestine, with a rare subtype characterized by succinate dehydrogenase B (SDHB)-loss posing significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. A 62-year-old man with weight loss and abdominal pain was diagnosed with a gastric GIST showing SDHB-loss. Initial treatment with Imatinib reduced the tumor size, but surgery revealed no residual tumor.

Acid challenge exacerbates activation of matrix metalloproteinases in permanent teeth undergoing radiotherapy.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of acid challenge on the activation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in the Dentinoenamel junction of primary and permanent teeth submitted to radiotherapy. For this purpose, a total of 178 dental fragments obtained from molars were used, and randomly divided into 2 groups (primary and permanent teeth) / 4 experimental subgroups (irradiated and non-irradiated, demineralized and non-demineralized). The fragments were exposed to radiation, with a dose fraction of 2 Gy, for 5 consecutive days, until a total dose of 60 Gy was reached, with a total of 30 cycles, for 6 weeks.

Zoonotic infections in UK and Irish veterinary students: a cross-sectional survey.

Background: Zoonotic infections are a recognised risk for the veterinary community. Veterinary students are at risk, due to the range of activities they participate with on training coupled with their inexperience; yet the prevalence and severity of infections in veterinary students has been little studied. In this study, a survey explored zoonotic infections in UK and Irish veterinary students.

Estrangulated obturatory hernia. Case report of a challenging diagnosis of obstructive syndrome.

Introduction And Importance: Obturator hernia accounts for less than 1 % of all documented cases of pelvic hernias. It most commonly presents as an obstructive syndrome in elderly, multiparous, slim women, characterized by a wider pelvis that facilitates the passage of the hernia sac through the obturator foramen alongside the obturator nerve. In this case, adhering to the SCARE (Updating Consensus Surgical CAse REport) checklist criteria, we present a typical scenario involving an elderly woman who was initially misdiagnosed with a fecaloma, concealing an obturator hernia.

Delineating patient errors in an intracavernosal injection program.

Background: Intracavernosal injection therapy (ICI) is a well-established therapeutic strategy for men with erectile dysfunction. Complications are often related to patient error when performong ICI.

Aim: The objective of this study was to examine patient errors in an established patient training program for performing ICI and identify factors that could predict major errors.

Collagenase Clostridium histolyticum for Peyronie's disease: a contemporary atlas of complications and their management.

Introduction: Collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (CCH) remains the only Food and Drug Administration-approved medical treatment for Peyronie's disease (PD). The initial IMPRESS I and II trials (Investigation for Maximal Peyronie's Reduction Efficacy and Safety), which led to Food and Drug Administration approval, revealed a rate of treatment-related adverse events as high as 84%. Studies fail to provide clear definitions of complications.

Incidental prostate cancer after holmium laser enucleation of the prostate: Critical analysis of independent risk factors and impact on surgical outcomes.

Objectives: The objectives of this study are to evaluate the impact of incidental prostate cancer (iPCa) and its different grade group (GG) on the surgical outcomes of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) and, furthermore, to assess the independent risk factors associated with the detection of iPCa.

Patients Or Materials And Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted at a single institution for HoLEP cases that were performed between 2017 and 2022. Patients with a preoperative diagnosis of prostate cancer and those without baseline prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels within 1 year were excluded.

Background: Cellular entry of SARS-CoV-2 has been shown to rely on angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors, whose expression in the testis is among the highest in the body.
