Beyond Classification: A Unique Case of Self-Resolving Cutaneous Mucinosis Associated With Streptococcal Infection in a Child.

A 3-year-old boy presented with an unusual combination of indurated skin, sclerotic plaques with lichenification, and yellowish papules. Histopathology revealed diffuse dermal mucin deposits, and laboratory tests showed a positive throat culture for Group A streptococcus and elevated serum anti-streptolysin titers. An 10-day course of oral amoxicillin was associated with near-complete resolution of all dermatological findings within 4 months.

Association of daily physical activity and bone microarchitecture in young adults with type 1 diabetes - A pilot exploratory study.

Purpose: Physical activity (PA) is an important determinant of skeletal health. In young adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) fracture risk is increased, yet few studies have examined the PA and bone health relationship. Therefore, this pilot cross-sectional study characterized PA levels and their association with bone parameters measured by high resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) in young adults with T1D.

Implementation and development of hospital-based health technology assessment in Poland from the perspective of hospital representatives: qualitative research.

Introduction: The analysis of health technologies in Poland has so far mainly concerned drugs assessed by the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariffication, which was established for this purpose. Due to the implementation of various forms of investment (hardware, diagnostic, and organizational) in hospitals, and the growing need to properly assess the costs of implemented solutions, Hospital-Based Health Technology Assessment (HB-HTA) began to develop. In order to implement HB-HTA in the Polish healthcare system, in 2019-2022 a project was carried out, the consortium members of which were: the National Health Fund (NHF), the National Institute of Cardiology in Warsaw (NIKARD), and Lazarski University (UŁ).

True lateral imaging during lumbar medial branch radiofrequency neurotomy: Interobserver reliability.

Background: True lateral imaging (TLI), obtained by superimposing bilateral lumbar spine structures and aligning superior endplate cortical bone, requires deliberate rotational adjustments of the laterally positioned fluoroscope in both the axial and longitudinal planes. True lateral segmental imaging is necessary to depict true and accurate radiofrequency (RF) cannula positioning relative to bony anatomy during lumbar medial branch radiofrequency neurotomy (LMBRFN).

Objective: To determine the interobserver reliability of TLI during LMBRFN.

Accuracy of Shorter Iohexol GFR Measurement Protocols in Individuals with Preserved Kidney Function.

Key Points: Shorter measured GFR protocols are accurate and precise compared with the reference standard measured GFR protocol in patients with preserved GFR. These shorter protocols can potentially improve the adoption of GFR measurement more widely by reducing procedural time and cost.

Background: Measured GFR (mGFR) using exogenous tracers is recommended in a number of settings.

Abnormal vascular thickness and stiffness in young adults with type 1 diabetes: new insights from cutting-edge ultrasound modalities.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Early markers of CVD include increased carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and pulse wave velocity (PWV), but these existing ultrasound technologies show limited spatial and temporal resolution in young adults. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the utility of high-resolution ultrasound modalities, including high frequency ultrasound CIMT (hfCIMT) and ultrafast ultrasound PWV (ufPWV), in young adults with Type 1 Diabetes.

Swallowed topical steroid therapy for eosinophilic oesophagitis in children: practical, evidence-based guidance by the BSPGHAN Eosinophilic Oesophagitis Working Group.

Objective: To develop evidence-based guidance for topical steroid use in paediatric eosinophilic oesophagitis (pEoE) in the UK for both induction and maintenance treatment.

Methods: A systematic literature review using Cochrane guidance was carried out by the British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (BSPGHAN) Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (EoE) Working Group (WG) and research leads to determine the evidence base for preparation, dosing and duration of use of swallowed topical steroid (STS) formulations in EoE. Seven themes relating to pEoE were reviewed by the WG, alongside the Cochrane review this formed the evidence base for consensus recommendations for pEoE in the UK.

Procedures: Six Grade 4 classes were randomly assigned to two groups. The "Control group" received an instructional unit on inferential reading skills.

Separating Measurement Error and Signal in Environmental Data: Use of Replicates to Address Uncertainty.

Measurement uncertainty has long been a concern in the characterizing and interpreting environmental and toxicological measurements. We compared statistical analysis approaches when there are replicates: a Naı̈ve approach that omits replicates, a Hybrid approach that inappropriately treats replicates as independent samples, and a Measurement Error Model (MEM) approach in a random effects analysis of variance (ANOVA) model that appropriately incorporates replicates. A simulation study assessed the effects of sample size and levels of replication, signal variance, and measurement error on estimates from the three statistical approaches.

Quantitative analysis of selected genetic markers of induced brain stroke ischemic tolerance detected in human blood.

A brain stroke is a serious disease and the second leading cause of death in the European Union. Carotid stenosis accounts for 15% of all ischemic cerebral strokes. However, there is currently no effective screening for carotid disease.

Rifampin monotherapy for children with idiopathic infantile hypercalcemia.

Idiopathic Infantile Hypercalcemia (IIH) is characterized by hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria owing to PTH-independent increases in circulating concentrations of 1,25(OH)2D. At least 3 forms of IHH can be distinguished genetically and mechanistically: infantile hypercalcemia-1 (Hypercalcemia, Infantile, 1; HCINF1) due to CYP24A1 mutations results in decreased inactivation of 1,25(OH)2D; HCINF2 due to SLC34A1 mutations results in excessive 1,25(OH)2D production; and HCINF3 in which a variety of gene variants of uncertain significance (VUS) have been identified and where the mechanism for increased 1,25 (OH)2D is unclear. Conventional management with dietary calcium and vitamin D restriction has only limited success.

B cell targeted therapies in inflammatory autoimmune disease of the central nervous system.

Cumulative evidence along several lines indicates that B cells play an important role in the pathological course of multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitisoptica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) and related CNS diseases. This has prompted extensive research in exploring the utility of targeting B cells to contain disease activity in these disorders. In this review, we first recapitulate the development of B cells from their origin in the bone marrow to their migration to the periphery, including the expression of therapy-relevant surface immunoglobulin isotypes.

Relationship between risk factors for impaired bone health and HR-pQCT in young adults with type 1 diabetes.

Objective: In type 1 diabetes, risk factors associated with impaired bone health contribute to increased risk of fracture. The aim of this study was to (1): compare the high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) parameters of young adults with type 1 diabetes with those of healthy controls (2), identify sex differences, and (3) evaluate the association between diabetes and bone health risk factors, with HR-pQCT.

The Health Technology Assessment is based on the evaluation of the characteristics and effects of health technologies to properly spend resources in healthcare. For the needs of hospitals, a special HTA department, Hospital-Based Health Technology Assessment (HB-HTA), has been established. The objective of the article is to assess the possibility of implementing a functional model with the coordinating role of Health Departments of the Voivodeship Offices with the support of the National Health Fund and the HTA Agency in Poland.

Cortical activity involved in perception and imagery of visual stimuli in a subject with aphantasia. An EEG case report.

Aphantasia has been described as the inability to voluntarily evoke mental images using the "mind's eye." We studied a congenital aphantasic subject using neuropsychological testsand 64 channel EEG recordings, in order to studycortical activity involved in perception and imagery evaluating event-related potentials(N170, P200, N250). The subject is in the normal range of the neuropsychological tests performed, except for specific imagery tests.

Encephalopathy after unintentional intrathecal gadolinium: A letter to the editor.

Objective: Raise awareness of gadolinium encephalopathy, a rare cause of neurological symptoms.

Setting: An L5-S1 interlaminar epidural steroid injection (IL-ESI) was performed with a gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) due to the patient's history of allergic reaction to iodine-based contrast agents.

Discussion: Several hours after administration of GBCA, the patient had nausea and vomiting with altered mental status.

Recurrent ileocolic intussusception with appendiceal lead point in a 2-year-old child: an etiology to be aware of on ultrasound.

Ileocolic intussusception is a differential consideration in young pediatric patients presenting with acute abdominal pain. Appendiceal intussusception is an uncommon variant of ileocolic intussusception where the appendix is contained within the intussusception, which can be challenging to diagnose preoperatively. In this case report, we present a 25-month-old female presenting with intermittent, diffuse abdominal pain.

Raman Optical Activity of 1T-TaS.

Measurements of optical activity can be readily performed in transparent matter by means of a rotation of transmitted light polarization. In the case of opaque bulk materials, such measurements cannot be performed, making it difficult to assess possible chiral properties. In this work, we present full angular polarization dependencies of the Raman modes of bulk 1T-TaS, which has recently been suggested to have chiral properties after pulsed laser excitation.
