Objective: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a chronic disease that can cause interstitial lung disease (ILD), a poor prognostic factor in SSc patients. Given the concerns over radiation exposure from repeated CT scans, there is a growing interest in exploring radiation-free imaging alternatives like MRI for ILD evaluation. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of three-dimensional zero echo time (3D-ZTE) MRI in assessing SSc-related ILD compared to the thin-slice chest CT.

Article Synopsis
  • Swyer-James-MacLeod syndrome makes one lung lobe look really empty on chest scans, and it is linked to other lung problems like air trapping and less blood flow.
  • If a child has a common heart issue called a ventricular septal defect and it isn't treated, it can lead to serious lung problems like Eisenmenger syndrome.
  • Identifying Swyer-James-MacLeod syndrome early is important for giving the right treatment to help patients with unusual lung conditions.

Background/aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the performance of contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) and dynamic breast MRI techniques for diagnosing breast lesions, assess the diagnostic accuracy of CEM's using histopathological findings, and compare lesion size measurements obtained from both methods with pathological size.

Materials And Methods: This prospective study included 120 lesions, of which 70 were malignant, in 104 patients who underwent CEM and MRI within a week. Two radiologists independently evaluated the MR and CEM images in separate sessions, using the BI-RADS classification system.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated choroidal thickness (CT) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and compared it to healthy controls while exploring its relationship with RA-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD).
  • A total of 63 RA patients and 36 healthy controls participated, with RA patients further divided into two groups: those with RA-ILD and those without.
  • The results showed that RA-ILD patients had significantly thinner CT at specific points compared to both the RA-noILD group and healthy controls, but CT thickness did not correlate with the severity of lung disease.

Article Synopsis
  • * A case of bilateral TMS with a specific mutation (tyrosine kinase domain) was initially misdiagnosed as orchitis, emphasizing the need for comprehensive reevaluation for accurate diagnosis.
  • * The report highlights the significance of identifying genetic mutations in TMS for personalized treatment approaches, suggesting that using tyrosine kinase inhibitors could improve patient outcomes.

Purpose: Baastrup's disease is characterized by abnormal contact between adjacent spinous processes. Our study is the first to systematically incorporate the STIR sequence, recognized for its heightened sensitivity to fluid and edema, into the MRI protocol for diagnosing Baastrup's disease in symptomatic individuals. The objective is to determine its prevalence and association with lumbar spinal degenerative changes.

A 70-year-old woman with a 6-year history of asthma, a 12-year history of diabetes mellitus, and who did not smoke presented to the pulmonology clinic with dyspnea and cough. Chest CT performed 5 years earlier for similar symptoms revealed multiple pulmonary nodules. However, she was lost to follow-up before the work-up was concluded.

Objective: The aims of this study were to assess the chest computed tomography (CT) findings in post-COVID-19 respiratory condition (rPCC) patients and compare the findings with asymptomatic participants (APs). It also aimed to evaluate the relationship between CT findings and pulmonary function tests (PFTs) in rPCC patients. Finally, it aimed to compare the quantitative chest CT findings and PFT results of patients with rPCC and APs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the stiffness and cross-sectional area (CSA) of the tibial nerve in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) using shear wave elastography and ultrasound, aiming to link these measurements with disease activity, quality of life, and neuropathic pain severity.
  • In a cross-sectional study of 28 SSc patients and 22 healthy controls, results showed that SSc patients had higher TN stiffness and CSA values compared to controls, along with positive correlations between nerve stiffness and disease activity as measured by the EUSTAR index.
  • The study demonstrated moderate to good interobserver agreement for measurements, indicating reliable results, and highlighted significant differences in nerve characteristics between SSc patients and healthy controls.*

Although Kawasaki disease is often self-limiting, significant cardiovascular sequelae may occur in the acute or late stage. The most common late complication is persistent coronary artery aneurysm, which can lead to myocardial ischaemia and even myocardial infarction. We report a case of coronary artery bypass grafting in a 16-year-old boy with a history of undiagnosed Kawasaki disease.

  • Acute focal bacterial nephritis (AFBN) is a serious upper urinary tract infection that requires prompt diagnosis and longer antibiotic treatment to prevent complications.
  • A 10-year-old boy presented with fever and flank pain, and imaging showed significant kidney enlargement and lesions, leading to an MRI to assess the situation better.
  • Negative urine cultures in febrile children can lead to misdiagnosis; therefore, ultrasound and advanced imaging like CT or MRI are crucial for identifying AFBN.

Article Synopsis
  • - A 58-year-old man with a history of intermittent chest pain and palpitations presented to a cardiology clinic; he previously had a cardiac mass found via echocardiography 3 years ago but missed follow-up care.
  • - His medical history showed no other significant issues, but he has a family history of sudden cardiac death due to his father's heart attack at age 57.
  • - Physical and lab examinations were mostly normal, but ECG indicated sinus rhythm with ST depression, and further imaging tests (cardiac CT and MRI) were scheduled to assess the irregular left ventricle mass.
