Supramolecular protein assemblies have been used as intelligent drug delivery systems that can encapsulate drugs and transport them to specific tissues or cells. However, the known methods for designing supramolecular protein assemblies for transportation across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) remain challenging and inefficient. Herein, we report that the supramolecular recombinant-protein-based strategy enables the biosynthesis and production of a supramolecular protein assembly that is intrinsically capable of crossing the BBB.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focuses on the need for proper disinfection of dental impressions, which can get contaminated with saliva and blood, and examines the effectiveness of chlorogenic acid (CA) as a disinfectant.
  • The research assesses how different concentrations of CA affect the physical properties of alginate impressions, including their elasticity and setting time, as well as their antimicrobial effectiveness against various microorganisms.
  • Results showed that CA can effectively disinfect alginate impressions while maintaining their dimensional accuracy, suggesting it may be a more beneficial disinfectant option compared to traditional chemical disinfectants.

Introduction: The contamination of dental unit waterlines (DUWLs) poses a significant risk of cross-infection in dentistry. Although chemical disinfectants have been effective in reducing number of bacteria, they do have limitations.

Methods: This study aimed to investigate the potential of chlorogenic acid, a natural substance with broadspectrum antibacterial properties, for treating DUWLs.

In this work, we propose the development of an efficient, economical, automated, and sustainable method for separating bioproducts from culture medium via the integration of a sucrose-secreting cyanobacteria production process and pressure-driven membrane filtration technology. Firstly, we constructed sucrose-secreting cyanobacteria with a sucrose yield of 600-700 mg/L sucrose after 7 days of salt stress, and the produced sucrose could be fully separated from the cyanobacteria cultures through an efficient and automated membrane filtration process. To determine whether this new method is also economical and sustainable, the relationship between membrane species, operating pressure, and the growth status of four cyanobacterial species was systematically investigated.
