Case report: Ulcerative colitis-related spondyloarthritis treated with golimumab until 27 weeks of gestation.

Although tumor necrosis factor inhibitors are recommended for preventing flare-ups in pregnant women with ulcerative colitis (UC), studies on golimumab use during pregnancy are scant. Herein, we present a 39-year-old woman with UC and spondyloarthritis. The patient preferred treatment with a long dosing interval that minimally affects the working life of the patient.

[Survey on Patient Satisfaction with the Usability and Formulation of Budesonide Rectal Foam Following a Change in Head and Applicator Shape and Properties].

Budesonide Rectal Foam (BF) was introduced in 2017 and changed in November 2022 upon request, addressing the challenges encountered with liquid rectal formulations indicated for ulcerative colitis (UC). This formulation is an important agent in the treatment of rectal to sigmoid colon lesions in moderate UC. As the characteristics of the formulation of the rectal formulation are thought to influence patient satisfaction, a survey was conducted on the formulation and patient satisfaction among patients who used BF before and after the change.

Trend analysis of pharmacist involvement in cancer care in Japan from 2015 to 2020: A nationwide survey study on hospital pharmacy practice.

Introduction: Pharmacists are needed as members of oncology teams. The Japanese Society of Hospital Pharmacists (JSHP) conducts a nationwide survey annually to analyze the actual situation and generate fundamental information about hospital pharmacy practice in Japan. Using data from this large-scale survey, we described pharmacists' involvement in cancer chemotherapy.

External Validation and Update of the Risk Prediction Model for Denosumab-Induced Hypocalcemia Developed From a Hospital-Based Administrative Database.

Purpose: Denosumab is used to treat patients with bone metastasis from solid tumors, but sometimes causes severe hypocalcemia, so careful clinical management is important. This study aims to externally validate our previously developed risk prediction model for denosumab-induced hypocalcemia by using data from two facilities with different characteristics in Japan and to develop an updated model with improved performance and generalizability.

Methods: In the external validation, retrospective data of Kameda General Hospital (KGH) and Miyagi Cancer Center (MCC) between June 2013 and June 2022 were used and receiver operating characteristic (ROC)-AUC was mainly evaluated.

Exploring factors associated with bleeding events after open heart surgery in patients on dialysis - effects of the presence or absence of warfarin therapy.

Background: Perioperative management of patients on dialysis is critical for controlling bleeding and thrombotic risk, in addition to infection control. Postoperative anticoagulation is often difficult to control, and different institutions have different policies. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate factors associated with postoperative bleeding events and whether warfarin (WF) therapy affects the incidence of postoperative bleeding events, total mortality, and stroke.

Evaluation of hospital pharmacists' activities using additional reimbursement for infection prevention as an indicator in small and medium-sized hospitals.

Background: Hospitals in Japan established the healthcare delivery system from FY 2018 to 2021 by acquiring an additional reimbursement for infection prevention (ARIP) of category 1 or 2. However, research on outcomes of ARIP applications related to the practice of hospital pharmacists is scarce.

Methods: This study assessed the activities performed by hospital pharmacists in hospitals with 100 to 299 beds, using ARIP acquirement as an indicator, using data from an annual questionnaire survey conducted in 2020 by the Japanese Society of Hospital Pharmacists on the status of hospital pharmacy departments.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an autoimmune disease that inflames the intestinal tract and reduces patient quality of life. In recent years, prescriptions of biologics and Janus kinase inhibitors have made outpatient pharmacists indispensable to clinics and hospitals. Therefore, we retrospectively investigated the effectiveness of immunopharmacist outpatient services in treating IBD.

Urate-lowering drugs for chronic kidney disease with asymptomatic hyperuricemia and hypertension: a randomized trial.

Introduction: Xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitors may slow down chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression. The comparative effectiveness of the different urate-lowering drugs is unknown. The aim of this study was to determine whether urate-lowering therapy with an XO inhibitor (febuxostat) and that with a uricosuric drug (benzbromarone) are comparable in slowing renal function decline in patients with CKD complicated with hypertension and hyperuricemia.

Shared decision-making practices and patient values in pharmacist outpatient care for rheumatic disease: A multiple correspondence analysis.

To investigate the value-to-value relationships, relationship between values and patient background, continuation rate of treatment after shared decision-making (SDM), and disease status in order to clarify the values involved in drug therapy decisions for patients with rheumatic disease. We investigated patient values (efficacy of drug therapy [effectiveness], safety, economics, daily life, and other) and the continuance rate and disease status of treatment after 6 months in 94 patients with rheumatic disease aged ≥18 years who made decisions with pharmacists and physicians in the pharmacy outpatient clinic between September 2019 and April 2021. Multiple correspondence and K-means cluster analyses were performed to show the relationship between values and basic patient information.

Purpose: To examine the impact of adding droperidol to fentanyl-based intravenous patient- controlled analgesia (IVPCA) on the discontinuation of IVPCA use due to postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV).

Methods: Patients who underwent surgeries other than abdominal surgeries and used IVPCA between April 2014 and March 2018 were selected. Patients using IVPCA with fentanyl alone were compared to patients using droperidol added to IVPCA.

Chorea-like symptoms and high blood concentration of ceftriaxone in a patient undergoing hemodialysis: A case report.

Ceftriaxone (CTRX) is a third-generation cephalosporin commonly used to treat infections such as community-acquired pneumonia and urinary tract infections caused by mainly Gram-negative bacteria and some Gram-positive bacteria. Here, we report a case of a patient on hemodialysis who had chorea-like symptoms with high blood concentration of CTRX. A 74-year-old Japanese woman receiving hemodialysis was admitted with obstructive cholangitis and was started on CTRX therapy at a dose of 2 g every 24 hours.

A number of studies have shown that CD8+ T cells mediate protective anti-malaria immunity in a mouse model. However, whether human CD8+ T cells play a role in protection against malaria remains unknown. We recently established human immune system (HIS) mice harboring functional human CD8+ T cells (HIS-CD8 mice) by transduction with HLA-A∗0201 and certain human cytokines using recombinant adeno-associated virus-based gene transfer technologies.

Co-administration of α-GalCer analog and TLR4 agonist induces robust CD8(+) T-cell responses to PyCS protein and WT-1 antigen and activates memory-like effector NKT cells.

In the present study, the combined adjuvant effect of 7DW8-5, a potent α-GalCer-analog, and monophosphoryl lipid A (MPLA), a TLR4 agonist, on the induction of vaccine-induced CD8(+) T-cell responses and protective immunity was evaluated. Mice were immunized with peptides corresponding to the CD8(+) T-cell epitopes of a malaria antigen, a circumsporozoite protein of Plasmodium yoelii, and a tumor antigen, a Wilms Tumor antigen-1 (WT-1), together with 7DW8-5 and MPLA, as an adjuvant. These immunization regimens were able to induce higher levels of CD8(+) T-cell responses and, ultimately, enhanced levels of protection against malaria and tumor challenges compared to the levels induced by immunization with peptides mixed with 7DW8-5 or MPLA alone.
