Outcomes of Patients Who Undergo Transfusion of Fresh Frozen Plasma: A Prospective, Observational, Multicentre Cohort Study in Hiroshima, Japan.

Purpose: Given the chronic shortage of blood for transfusion in Japan, promotion of appropriate use of fresh frozen plasma (FFP) urgently needs to be addressed by the national blood project in Japan. Whether FFP transfusions are administered appropriately in Japan is currently unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the outcomes of patients who undergo FFP transfusion and the appropriateness of use of FFP.

[Evaluation of factor for one-point venous blood sampling method based on the causality model].

Purpose: One-point venous blood sampling method (Mimura, et al.) can evaluate the rCBF value with a high degree of accuracy. However, the method is accompanied by complexity of technique because it requires a venous blood Octanol value, and its accuracy is affected by factors of input function.

Fine structure of the spermatophores and their ejaculated forms, sperm reservoirs, of the Japanese common squid, Todarodes pacificus.

Spermatophores in a squid, Todarodes pacificus, were observed by light and electron microscopy and were further analyzed by X-ray microanalysis (XMA) of frozen thin sections. Each spermatophore consists of a sperm mass, a cement body, an ejaculatory apparatus, and some fluid materials, all of which are covered by an outer tunic. The outer tunic consists of about 20 membranous layers, each containing straight, parallel microgrooves.

Autolysis and heterolysis of the epidermal cells in anuran tadpole tail regression.

Autolysis and heterolysis of the degenerating epidermis of the tail fin of Rana japonica tadpoles during spontaneous metamorphosis were observed by transmission and scanning electron microscopy. In the early climactic stages of metamorphosis (st. 19-20), the outermost epidermal cells developed vacuoles that were acid phosphatase positive and showed apparent breakdown of the cell membrane.
