Posttraumatic Bony Ankylosis of the Proximal Interphalangeal Joint in Ulnar Flexion Treated With Resurfacing Arthroplasty With Ligament Reconstruction.

Resurfacing arthroplasty is increasingly used to treat arthrosis of the proximal interphalangeal joint. However, the presence of ankylosis increases the risk of complications; thus, there are few reports on this procedure in the context of ankylosis. The present report describes the case of a 32-year-old man who presented with posttraumatic proximal interphalangeal arthrosis with bony ankylosis in flexion and ulnar flexion.

Preoperative Evaluation of Thenar Muscles in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome by Ultrasonography.

This article aims to evaluate the usefulness of ultrasonography for the measurement of thenar muscles in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). A total of 85 patients with CTS who had a carpal tunnel release procedure were included in this study. The transducer was applied onto the palmar surface of the hand perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the first metacarpal bone.

Pathogenicity and genomic features of vapN-harboring Rhodococcus equi isolated from human patients.

Rhodococcus equi is a saprophytic soil bacterium and intracellular pathogen that causes refractory suppurative pneumonia in foals and has emerged as a pathogenic cause of zoonotic disease. Several studies have reported human infections caused by R. equi harboring a recently described third type of virulence plasmid, the ruminant-associated pVAPN, which carries the vapN virulence determinant.

Background: Aging impairs tendon healing and is a potential risk factor for chronic tendinitis. During normal aging, tendons undergo structural and biomechanical degenerative changes, accompanied by a reduction in the number of tenocytes and changes to their properties. However, molecular changes in aged tendons under inflammatory conditions are not well understood.

Background: Fascia lata augmentation of massive rotator cuff tears has shown good clinical results. However, its biological effect during the early healing process is not clearly understood. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the biological efficacy of fascia lata augmentation during the early healing process of rotator cuff tears using a rabbit rotator cuff defect model.

Background: Advanced glycation end products are associated with aging, hyperglycemia, and oxidative stress. Accumulation of advanced glycation end products can cause various pathological conditions; however, the association of Dupuytren's disease with advanced glycation end products has not been demonstrated yet. The aim of this study is to investigate the association of Dupuytren's disease with advanced glycation end products.

Two Extension Block Kirschner Wires' Technique for Bony Mallet Thumb.

Mallet fingers with an avulsion fracture of the distal phalanx or rupture of the terminal tendon of the extensor mechanism is known as a common injury, while mallet thumb is very rare. In this paper, the case of a 19-year-old woman with a sprained left thumb sustained while playing basketball is presented. Plain radiographs and computed tomography revealed an avulsion fracture involving more than half of the articular surface at the base of the distal phalanx.

High-resolution ultrasound in the diagnosis of trigger finger and evaluation of response to steroid injection.

Objective: No studies have reported the use of ultrasound for the evaluation of trigger finger after steroid injection. We evaluated the clinical features and ultrasound appearance of trigger finger before and after steroid injection under ultrasound guidance.
