Objectives: Podoplanin, a transmembrane sialomucin-like glycoprotein, is known to express at high frequency in oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) and possess metastasis-promoting activity such as increased invasion and platelet-aggregating activity. However, the regulatory mechanism of podoplanin expression in OSCC remains unknown.
Materials And Methods: In the present study, we investigated the podoplanin expression in both clinical specimens from total 80 patients (50 OSCC and 30 pharyngeal SCC) and in 4 OSCC cell lines in vitro.
We focused on the biological activity of the collagen extracts obtained from the giant edible jellyfish, Nemopilema nomurai. Jellyfish collagen extracts stimulates the production of immunoglobulins (Igs) and cytokines by human hybridoma cells and human peripheral blood lymphocytes. Therefore, we examined the immunoregulatory function of jellyfish collagen extracts in mice.

Proteose peptone (PP) is a heat-stable and acid-soluble protein in milk whey. We reveal in this study the IgE production-suppressing activity of the PP fraction in bovine milk. The PP fraction suppressed IgE production by human myeloma cell line U266 cells by depressing the IgE mRNA expression.

A comparison of the cytotoxic and immunosuppressive activity between meso-secoisolariciresinol and optically active secoisolariciresinols was similarly performed for the first time. Both enantiomers of secoisolariciresinol accelerated IgM production, although meso-secoisolariciresinol did not affect IgM production.

In this study, we investigated in detail the intratumoral lymphangiogenesis of oral squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) in comparison with tumor angiogenesis.
Methods: Immunohistochemistry with D2-40, podoplanin antibody, and CD34 antibody were used to evaluate the lymphatic vessel density (LVD) and blood microvessel density (MVD).
