Endoscopic treatment of anastomotic leakage after colorectal surgery by using polyglycolic acid sheets and fibrin glue.

We describe the case of a 66-year-old man with an anastomotic fistula after rectal surgery, which was treated colonoscopically using polyglycolic acid sheets and fibrin glue. Polyglycolic acid sheets and fibrin glue have been used in thoracic surgery and otolaryngology to reinforce sutures and prevent air leakage. There have been recent reports of their use in endoscopic surgery for the closure of intraoperative perforations after endoscopic submucosal dissection and for fistula closure after upper gastrointestinal tract surgery.

New Scale Predicting Distant Recurrence in Locally Advanced Lower Rectal Cancer Patients After Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy.

Background/aim: Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) for locally advanced lower rectal cancer (LALRC) is effective in preventing locoregional recurrence; however, it is less effective for preventing distant recurrence. This study aimed to evaluate a new scale for predicting distant recurrence before administering nCRT.

Patients And Methods: Sixty-three patients underwent nCRT for LALRC between 2009 and 2016 at the Tokyo Women's Medical University.

Prognostic risk factors for pT4 colon cancer: A retrospective cohort study.

The present study aimed to clarify the prognostic risk factors for pathological T4 (pT4) colon cancer and provide a basis for improved treatment in affected patients. The current retrospective cohort study included 83 consecutively enrolled patients who underwent curative surgery for primary pT4 colon cancer between January 2014 and December 2021 at Tokyo Medical Women's University (Tokyo, Japan). Oncological outcomes, including recurrence pattern, were compared between patients with pT4a and pT4b colon cancer.

Pedunculated early colorectal cancer with nodal metastasis: a case report.

Background: Pedunculated polyps are more likely to be amenable to complete resection than non-pedunculated early colorectal cancers and rarely require additional surgery. We encountered a patient with a pedunculated early colorectal cancer that consisted of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma with lymphatic invasion. We performed an additional bowel resection and found nodal metastasis.

[A Case of HER2 Positive Unresectable Gastric Cancer Leading to Conversion Therapy with Chemotherapy].

A 72‒year‒old man visited our hospital with a chief complaint of epigastralgia. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed type 3 advanced gastric cancer at the body of the stomach. Following an investigation, he was diagnosed with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2‒positive gastric cancer with invasion to the pancreas as well as the paraaortic lymph node, and multiple liver metastases were also observed.

[Two Cases of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Treated with TAS-102 plus Bevacizumab].

Trifluridine/tipiracil (TAS-102) is an important chemotherapeutic agent recommended by the Japanese guidelines as third- or fourth-line treatment for colorectal cancer. Some studies have reported that administration of TAS-102 concomitant with bevacizumab prolongs progression-free and overall survival in colorectal cancer. We describe 2 patients treated with a chemotherapeutic regimen comprising TAS-102 concomitant with bevacizumab for recurrent colorectal cancer.

[Two Cases of Advanced Gastric Cancer Diagnosed as Pathological Complete Response after Preoperative Chemotherapy with S-1 and Oxaliplatin].

We herein report 2 cases of gastric cancer treated by S-1 and oxaliplatin combination therapy before later undergoing gastrectomy. The pathological results of both cases demonstrated complete response. Case 1 had a giant tumor which was suspected to have invaded the pancreas.

[Case of Peritoneal Dissemination from Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor of Jejunum Treated with Repeated Non-Curative Surgery].

A 71-year-old male presented with abdominal distension and fever to our hospital. Abdominal CT revealed a huge tumor in abdomen, and non-curative surgery was performed. Peritoneal dissemination was widespread and the tumor invaded the bladder and sigmoid-colon mesenterium.

[Long-Term Survival of Gastric Cancer with Multiple Liver and Lymph Node Metastases-A Case Report].

Currently, chemotherapy against unresectable advanced gastric cancer is progressing with the development new drugs and due to results of several clinical trials. Here, we reported a case of long-term survival of gastric cancer with multiple liver and lymph node metastases. A 68-year-old man was diagnosed with gastric cancer and Virchow lymph node, para-aortic lymph node, and multiple liver metastases at another hospital.

Efficacy and short-term outcomes of preoperative chemoradiotherapy with intermittent oral tegafur-uracil plus leucovorin in Japanese rectal cancer patients: a single center experience retrospective analysis.

Background: Various types of preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) have been established for rectal cancer; thus, Physicians will need to refine the selection of appropriate preoperative CRT for different patients since there are various treatment regimens.
