Objectives: There is a relationship between insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and the estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR) has been reported as a surrogate marker of insulin resistance. This study aimed to investigate the association between eGDR and the incident MASLD, and compare the ability to predict incident MASLD with other insulin resistance markers.
Methods: Retrospective cohort data from a health check-up program were analyzed.
Congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH) can cause delayed secondary sexual characteristics and contribute to juvenile osteoporosis, with multiple causative genes having been reported. We treated a 27-year-old man diagnosed with central hypogonadism, presenting with delayed secondary sexual characteristics and juvenile osteoporosis, using bone resorption inhibitors and testosterone therapy. Genetic testing revealed missense variants both in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 () and gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor () genes, a combination that has not been previously reported.

Obesity is a global health concern that promotes chronic low-grade inflammation, leading to insulin resistance, a key factor in many metabolic diseases. Angiotensin 1-7 (Ang 1-7), a component of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), exhibits anti-inflammatory effects in obesity and related disorders, though its mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we examined the effect of Ang 1-7 on inflammation of white adipose tissue (WAT) in dietary-induced obese mice.

Sternal chondrosarcoma is a rare malignant condition. Although surgical resection is crucial, the reconstruction of sternal defects is challenging. A 64-year-old male patient with a history of 2 separate sternal tumor resections received a diagnosis of sternal chondrosarcoma recurrence.

Although segmentectomy is the standard surgical procedure for small-sized peripheral non-small cell lung cancer, reports on segmentectomy for right middle robe are rare because of the anatomical feature. We report a case of an 81-year-old woman with a history of left S4 segmentectomy, left basal segmentectomy, and right upper lobectomy for multiple primary lung cancer with a part solid nodule in S4a. Owing to the increased volume of the right middle lobe following a right upper lobectomy, a right S4 segmentectomy was performed.

Dynamic chest radiography (DCR) is a novel radiographic technique that evaluates the thoracic movement from inspiration to expiration. Here, we report the efficacy of DCR in the surgical treatment of diaphragmatic paralysis. A 60-year-old woman presented with phrenic nerve palsy after anterior mediastinal resection.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 362 participants with T2D. UPFs consumption was assessed using a brief-type self-administered diet history questionnaire, quantified as the density of UPFs intake (g/1000 kcal).
Home blood pressure (HBP) monitoring is a better prognostic predictor than clinical BP monitoring. However, the suggested number of HBP measurements in each occasion varies across guidelines. The study aimed to identify which HBP measurements in each occasion are more closely associated with new cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional analysis used the Cross ICU Searchable Information System data from a Japanese multicenter retrospective observational cohort study of critically ill patients with COVID-19 receiving ventilation and/or ECMO, from February 2020 to March 2022. Maximum daily insulin dose was determined, and factors associated with it and maximum daily insulin dose per body weight were assessed using linear regression analysis.
Objective: Surgical care has been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the pandemic on lung cancer and mediastinal tumor surgery.
Methods: Changes in the number of surgical procedures for lung cancer and mediastinal tumors were analyzed using the National Clinical Database of Japan.

Powders used in pharmaceuticals require good flowability. The angle of repose and compressibility index are often used to measure the flowability of pharmaceutical powders. However, confirming the relationship between external forces and flowability for smooth powder handling is necessary.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using annual health examination data from employees of the Panasonic Corporation in Japan. We evaluated the differences in the changes in metabolic factors associated with lifestyle disease during the observation periods between the overseas and non-overseas assignment groups.
Introduction: Human alveolar echinococcosis caused by is an important zoonotic disease in the northern hemisphere. The life cycle of is maintained primarily in wild animals and requires an intermediate host (mainly small mammals). Human can become an intermediate host through accidental ingestion of eggs.

Aims: We aimed to evaluate the feasibility of redo-TAVI using the balloon-expandable SAPIEN 3 (S3) implanted within the self-expanding ACURATE neo2 (ACn2) valve and to identify predictors associated with a high risk of compromising coronary flow.
Methods: A total of 153 post-ACn2 TAVI cardiac computed tomography scans were analysed.

Purpose: Despite the low overall death rate of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), no study has examined the association between COVID-19 severity and the total daily insulin dose required for glycemic control. The aim of this study was to determine the maximum total daily insulin dose required according to COVID-19 severity, and the number of days required to reach the maximum insulin dose in patients with COVID-19 who used insulin during hospitalization.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included participants aged 20-90 years with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 who used insulin during hospitalization at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine Hospital between March 4, 2020, and May 31, 2021.
Background: Little is known about whether central airway morphological changes beyond traction bronchiectasis develop and affect clinical outcomes in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). This study aimed to compare central airway structure comprehensively between patients with IPF, subjects with interstitial lung abnormality (ILA), and those without ILA (control) using computed tomography (CT). We further examined the prognostic impact of IPF-specific CT airway parameters in patients with IPF.

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are produced by the gut microbiota and found in fermented foods and can stimulate the anti-inflammatory action of type 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILCS3s) in the intestine. This study hypothesised that supplementing miso, a Japanese fermented food, to a WD could increase the levels of SCFAs and thus stimulate ILC3s, decreasing inflammation in the intestine and protecting intestinal barrier integrity.
