A case of intrapelvic cyst is presented. A 74-year-old woman was admitted with the chief complaint of urinary retention. Intrapelvic cyst was found by computed tomography scan during evaluation for urinary retention.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA 72-year-old patient was found to have a non-papillary bladder tumor extending from the vesical floor to the retrotrigone and manifested multiple bone metastases without evidence of any hematogenic metastases in other organs. The pattern of the above metastases were very similar to that of a prostatic carcinoma and suggests that the so-called specific pattern of bone metastases observed in prostatic carcinomas might be caused by the location of the original tumor and not by features of the prostatic carcinoma cells themselves.

Percutaneous aspiration biopsy of renal angiomyolipoma (AML) was carried out on four patients to investigate the cytological features of AML. The diagnosis was confirmed histologically after the removal of the tumor. The specimen was fixed in 95% alcohol and stained by the Papanicolaou's method.

Biopsy of contralateral testis of 20 patients with an unilateral testicular tumor was carried out to evaluate the morphological changes of the contralateral testis caused by the tumor. Serum beta-chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels before orchiectomy were examined as a function influencing morphological changes of the contralateral testis. Typical carcinoma in situ was found in a case of ipsilateral testis.

Six undergraduate students were tested in a two choice situation, exposed to concurrent VI-VI schedules. For group 1-5, tokens earned by pressing the left button were exchanged for one yen, and tokens earned by pressing the right button were exchanged for five yen after the experiment. For group 3-2, tokens earned by pressing the left button were exchanged for three yen, and tokens earned by pressing the right button were exchanged for two yen.

Clinical courses of 67 patients with carcinoma in situ (CIS) of the urinary bladder during 14 years from 1971 to 1984 were investigated according to the clinical type of CIS and treatment methods. CIS was classified into four types: the primary group included 18 patients who had neither prior nor simultaneous tumors of the urinary tract; the secondary group included 10 patients who had CIS diagnosed subsequent to the treatment of superficial papillary bladder tumor; the concurrent group included 14 patients who had CIS concomitantly with superficial papillary bladder tumor; and the nonpapillary T1 group included 25 patients who presented with CIS with concomitant nonpapillary T1 tumor. As a rule, the initial treatment was conservative (transurethral resection [TUR] or intravesical chemotherapy) for the primary, secondary, and concurrent CIS groups, whereas treatment was radical (total cystectomy or irradiation) for the nonpapillary T1 group.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFrom October 1983 to September 1985, 84 patients with superficial bladder tumor (Ta, Tl, Tis) were treated with sequential instillation of mitomycin C (MMC) and adriamycin (ADM). Doses of 20 mg MMC on day 1 and 40 mg ADM on day 2 were instilled into the bladder and retained for at least 2 h; this was repeated once a week for 5 consecutive weeks. Patients who achieved complete response (CR), were randomized and underwent prophylactic treatment taking the form of either intermittent instillation of MMC or daily oral administration of 5-fluorouracil.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThirty patients with acute urethritis were treated with short-term administration of norfloxacin. The drug was administered randomly in two regimens: Two 400 mg oral doses for a single day or three 200 mg oral doses for three days. For gonorrheal urethritis, the efficacy rates of one and three-day administrations were 75 and 90%, respectively.

Ten patients with bladder cancer were treated with double channel chemotherapy which included intra-arterial infusion of DDP and concurrent intra-venous infusion of STS, a neutralizing agent against DDP. The method allows the administration of a relatively high dose of DDP to localized malignant tumors by protection from systemic cytotoxicity of DDP by STS. DDP in a dose of 100-150 mg/m2 of body surface was infused either to the internal iliac artery at a portion close to the superior vesical artery or to the aortic bifurcation by the Seldinger technique over 30 minutes, and infusion of 20 g STS to the peripheral vein was simultaneously started and continued for 2-3 hours.

They were designed to fulfil the specificity requirement of calpains established recently. When compared in terms of the dose for 50% inactivation, Leu-Leu-PheCH2Cl was the strongest inactivator, being 500-600 times more effective than tosyl-PheCH2Cl and 5-14 times more than N-[N-(L-3-trans-carboxyoxiran-2-carbonyl)-L-leucyl]agmatine (E-64).

Intravesical chemotherapy with sequential instillation of mitomycin C and adriamycin was carried out on 19 patients with superficial bladder cancer (Ta, T1 and Tis). Twenty milligram of mitomycin C on day 1 and 40 mg of adriamycin on day 2 were instilled into the bladder, this treatment being repeated weekly for 5 consecutive weeks if there were no serious side effects. The following results were obtained.
