Background: Left ventricle aneurysm (LVA) as a sequela to myocardial infarction or iatrogenic injury is required surgical treatment with full median sternotomy. Herein, we report a case of successful surgical treatment of left ventricle aneurysm performed by minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS).
Case Presentation: We describe a case of a LVA treated by minimally invasive cardiac surgery in an 82-year-old woman who reported to the hospital with the complaint of chest pains at rest.
Background: There are currently no COVID-19 vaccine assessment systems in Japan that allow for the active surveillance of both vaccinated and unvaccinated persons. Herein, we describe the development of Japan's first COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness and safety assessment system with active surveillance capabilities.
Methods: The Vaccine Effectiveness, Networking, and Universal Safety (VENUS) Study was developed as a multi-source database that links four data types at the individual resident level: Basic Resident Register (base population information), Vaccination Record System (vaccination-related information), Health Center Real-time Information-sharing System on COVID-19 (HER-SYS; information on COVID-19 occurrence), and health care claims data (information on diagnoses, hospitalizations, diagnostic tests, and treatments).
Spatiotemporal control of cell division in the meristem is vital for plant growth. In the stele of the root apical meristem (RAM), procambial cells divide periclinally to increase the number of vascular cell files. Class III homeodomain leucine zipper (HD-ZIP III) proteins are key transcriptional regulators of RAM development and suppress the periclinal division of vascular cells in the stele; however, the mechanism underlying the regulation of vascular cell division by HD-ZIP III transcription factors (TFs) remains largely unknown.

This epidemiological study investigated the actual status of psychiatric symptoms and disorders caused by COVID-19, from four major university hospitals and five general hospitals in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, having a population of 5 million. We conducted a survey of psychiatric disorders associated with COVID-19 using Diagnosis Procedure Combination (DPC) data and the psychiatric records of the hospitals.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated a total of 184 patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma treated with either nivolumab plus ipilimumab combined treatment as first-line therapy (n = 73) or nivolumab as later-line therapy (n = 111) at our affiliated institutions. Progression-free survival, overall survival and objective response rate as well as adverse event profile were compared between sexes.
Objective: To compare intraoperative blood loss in robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) between the right and left sides.
Methods: The data of patients who underwent RAPN at a single institution between 2013 and 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Using propensity score matching, we compared estimated blood loss (EBL) between right- and left-sided tumors.
Despite Japan's high vaccination coverage, daily numbers of new COVID-19 cases have been high. However, studies on the seroprevalence among Japanese people and the causative factors for rapid spread have remained limited. In this study, we aimed to examine the seroprevalence and associated factors in healthcare workers (HCWs) of a medical center in Tokyo using blood samples drawn at annual check-ups from 2020 to 2022.

Previous studies have indicated that H-antigen expression has not completely developed on RBCs in monkeys. Such antigen expression requires the presence of H-antigen and A- or B-transferase expression in cells of erythroid lineage, although whether or not ABO gene regulation is associated with the difference of A- or B-antigen expression between Hominoidea and monkeys has not been examined.

Methods: We used the monthly claims data and certification of long-term care (LTC) insurance data of residents from 12 municipalities from April 2014 to March 2019. The 12 months from first recording was defined as the "baseline period," and the time thereafter as the "follow-up period".
Background: Clinical trials have demonstrated the superior efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-based combination therapy over sunitinib, a multi-target tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), in patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma. However, such benefits have not been elucidated in populations outside of clinical trials.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated data from 467 patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma who received ICI-based combination therapy or TKIs, as first-line therapy.
We aimed to identify combinations of clinical factors that predict heart failure (HF) onset using a novel limitless-arity multiple-testing procedure (LAMP). We also determined if increases in numbers of predictive combinations of factors increases the probability of developing HF. We recruited people without HF who received health check-ups in 2010, who were followed annually for 4 years.

MPD is relatively rare, observed in 0.7-4.

This study aimed to evaluate the validity of quantitative intravascular scanning based on novel zoomed high-resolution black blood (Z-HB) MRI for distinguishing VAD from other vessel pathologies.
Methods: Twenty-one patients with non-stroke VAD and 18 with symptomatic atherosclerotic plaques in their vertebral artery underwent Z-HB MRI and subsequent profile curve processing.
Objective: Japan introduced a financial incentive scheme in April 2016 to improve hospital-based dementia care, but its effectiveness remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the scheme's impact on medical and long-term care (LTC) expenditures, as well as on changes in care needs levels and daily living independence levels among older persons one year after hospital discharge.
Methods: We linked medical and LTC claims databases, and retrospectively identified patients who received LTC needs certification and daily living independence assessments in Fukuoka, Japan.
Background/aim: Rectal metastases from urothelial carcinoma (UC) are extremely rare with poor prognosis when treated with gemcitabine and cisplatin (GC) chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and total pelvic exenteration. Long-term survival has not been observed in patients treated with GC chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or total pelvic resection. However, there have been no reports on the efficacy of pembrolizumab therapy for this specific condition.

This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of PPSV23 on cardiovascular events in adults aged ≥ 65 years. This population-based nested case-control study was conducted using the claims data and vaccine records between April 2015 and March 2020 from the Vaccine Effectiveness, Networking, and Universal Safety (VENUS) Study.

However, some ESCCs have obscure color findings which affect the ability of endoscopists to differentiate these lesions and determine the resection line. Using white light imaging (WLI), linked color imaging (LCI) and blue laser imaging (BLI), 40 early ESCCs were retrospectively evaluated using images before and after iodine staining.

However, treatment with statins, which control low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, increases the risk of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) reduction. Although conventional fibrates, such as bezafibrate (Beza-F) and fenofibrate (Feno-F), are the mainstay for hypertriglyceridemia treatment, they may be associated with a risk of increased serum creatinine level and renal dysfunction.

This cross-sectional study was conducted between January 2012 and December 2015 and examined 17 113 eligible participants (6499 men; 10 614 women) with hypertension among 66 874 Japanese community residents who underwent voluntary health checkups. Multivariate analysis was used to estimate the association between high SUA level (≥7.
