Background And Aim: Qualitative diagnosis of ulcerative colitis-associated neoplasia (UCAN) is crucial for surveillance colonoscopy in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Although the utility of magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) in sporadic neoplasia diagnosis has been reported, its efficacy in UCAN remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of ME-NBI for qualitative diagnosis of UCAN.

Discrepancy and agreement between subjective symptoms and visual field impairment in glaucoma patients at a driving assessment clinic.

We investigated subjective symptoms during driving in 227 glaucoma patients at a driving assessment clinic. Patients underwent testing with the Humphrey Field Analyzer 24-2 (HFA 24-2) and a driving simulator (DS) with eye tracking. Patients reported whether they experienced symptoms during daily driving, such as fear or difficulty seeing under certain conditions.

We herein report a 47-year-old man who presented with progressive paraparesis. Imaging revealed a right upper pulmonary nodule, massive bilateral adrenal metastases, thoracolumbar vertebral osteolysis, and subcutaneous nodules. A biopsy of the right buttock nodule revealed a poorly differentiated metastatic carcinoma with high programmed cell death-ligand 1 expression and extensive chromosomal rearrangements.

Background: The spot vision screener (SVS) has been widely used for eye health examinations of infants and young children. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reproducibility of two SVS measurements in children with ophthalmological diseases.

Methods: 29 patients aged 15 years or younger who visited our hospital for refraction examinations with SVS before and at least 60 minutes after administration of 2 drops of 1% cyclopentolate ophthalmic solution (before and after cycloplegia) were included in this study.

Purpose: This study is to investigate the relationship between long-term changes in the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) and visual function of eyes with macular hole (MH) and compare the relationship between the FAZ of MH eyes and fellow eyes.

Methods: This study included 31 patients with unilateral MH who underwent vitrectomy and their fellow eyes. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and metamorphopsia were measured preoperatively and at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively.

Seronegative HIV-1 infection in a Japanese man presenting with Pneumocystis pneumonia: Analysis of long-term antibody response and literature review.

Seronegative human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, where an HIV-specific antibody response is lacking even in chronic or late-stage HIV infections, is extremely rare. Here, we report the case of a 50-year-old Japanese man presenting with Pneumocystis pneumonia who did not produce antibodies against HIV-1 until the initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART). Fourth-generation antigen-antibody testing temporarily reverted from weakly positive to negative soon after initiating ART, likely due to a reduction in viral load (assessed by p24 antigen levels).

Objective Cataract and chronic kidney disease (CKD) occur with increasing frequency with age and share common risk factors including smoking, diabetes, and hypertension. We evaluated the risk of incident cataract surgery in patients with non-dialysis-dependent CKD and dialysis-dependent CKD compared to non-CKD patients, while taking into account the competing risk of death. Use of Target Information for Preparing Initial Motor Command of Target Force Production Task.

The present study examined how humans use the target information provided immediately before the onset of motor output to prepare the initial motor command in the target force production task. Twenty healthy individuals participated in this study. A target cursor indicating the target force, and a force cursor indicating the force produced with index finger flexion were presented, and participants produced force in response to the appearance of the force cursor so that it moved toward the target cursor as fast as possible.

Relationship between Inter-Eye Asymmetries in Corneal Hysteresis and Visual Field Severity in Patients with Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma.

This study investigated the influence of asymmetric corneal hysteresis (CH) on asymmetric visual field impairment between right and left eyes in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) without a history of intraocular surgery. CH, corneal resistance factor (CRF), and corneal compensated intraocular pressure (IOPcc) were measured using the Ocular Response Analyzer. Temperature sensitivity of the interspecific interaction strength of coastal marine fish communities.

The effects of temperature on interaction strengths are important for understanding and forecasting how global climate change impacts marine ecosystems; however, tracking and quantifying interactions of marine fish species are practically difficult especially under field conditions, and thus, how temperature influences their interaction strengths under field conditions remains poorly understood. We herein performed quantitative fish environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding on 550 seawater samples that were collected twice a month from 11 coastal sites for 2 years in the Boso Peninsula, Japan, and analyzed eDNA monitoring data using nonlinear time series analytical tools. We detected fish-fish interactions as information flow between eDNA time series, reconstructed interaction networks for the top 50 frequently detected species, and quantified pairwise, fluctuating interaction strengths.

Key Clinical Message: Poor personal hygiene wearing the same unwashed briefs, and prolonged sitting have led to the development of chronic perianal pyoderma. This can be confused with hidradenitis suppurativa and must be differentiated as their treatments are different.
