Iqsec1 (IQ motif and Sec7 domain-containing protein 1), also known as BRAG2 (Brefeldin A-resistant Arf-GEF 2), is a guanine nucleotide exchange factor that regulates membrane trafficking, cytoskeletal organization, and signal transduction by activating class II and III ADP-ribosylation factors. To investigate the physiological role of Iqsec1 at the whole animal level, we generated Iqsec1-deficient mice using CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing. Nearly all Iqsec1 mice (99%) exhibited embryonic lethality with severe growth retardation.

Here, we present a case of HCC arising from an intrahepatic bile duct. A 74-year-old man who had been treated with direct-acting antiviral therapy for hepatitis C virus infection was referred to our hospital because of elevated serum prothrombin levels induced by vitamin K absence II (PIVKA-II).

The mushroom materials were systematically collected in Japan, and analysis of the cross sections of the materials at a resolution of 120 μm using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-IMS) revealed the localization of UA and its biogenically related metabolites. MALDI-IMS confirmed that UA was predominantly located on the entire surface of the fruiting body and accumulated in higher amounts in younger fruiting bodies than in mature ones.

The small GTPase ADP-ribosylation factor 6 (Arf6) is implicated in NGF-dependent processes in PC12 cells through endosomal trafficking and actin cytoskeleton reorganization. However, the regulatory mechanism for Arf6 in NGF signaling is largely unknown.

Pea dirigent-protein (DP) PsPTS2 generates 7,2'-dihydroxy-4',5'-methylenedioxyisoflav-3-ene (DMDIF), and stereoselectivity toward four possible 7,2'-dihydroxy-4',5'-methylenedioxyisoflavan-4-ol (DMDI) stereoisomers was investigated. Stereoisomer configurations were determined using NMR spectroscopy, electronic circular dichroism, and molecular orbital analyses.

Methods: This study included 271 patients who underwent esophagectomy for esophageal cancer between 2006 and 2019.
IQSEC2 gene on chromosome Xq11.22 encodes a member of guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) protein that is implicated in the activation of ADP-ribosylation factors (Arfs) at the postsynaptic density (PSD), and plays a crucial role in synaptic transmission and dendritic spine formation. Alterations in IQSEC2 have been linked to X-linked intellectual developmental disorders including epilepsy and behavioral abnormalities.

The colorful adults are well-known to entomologists and collectors worldwide. It is a hardwood-boring species with larvae that develop in dead broad-leaf trees.

ADP ribosylation factor 4 (Arf4) and Arf5, which belong to the Class II Arf small GTPase subfamily, control membrane trafficking in the endocytic and secretory pathways. However, their specific contribution to cerebral cortex development remains unclear.

Background/aim: In patients with esophageal cancer, muscle loss induced by neoadjuvant therapy before esophagectomy is correlated with poor prognosis. However, little is known about the causes of muscle loss. Thus, the purpose of this retrospective study was to clarify the risk factors for muscle loss during neoadjuvant therapy.

In the present study, we report a rare case of a desmoid tumor with fluorodeoxyglucose accumulation at the anastomotic postoperative gastric cancer site.
Case Presentation: A 68-year-old Japanese man underwent robot-assisted laparoscopic distal gastrectomy for early-stage gastric cancer in 2019.
Background: Cancer survival is associated with body mass index (BMI). However, the impact of patients' baseline characteristics on allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) outcomes remains unclear. This study aimed to examine the baseline clinical factors associated with 5-year survival rates in patients undergoing allo-HSCT.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of roasting conditions on the concentration of physiologically active compounds in coffee beans with and without supercritical CO decaffeination treatment. Decaffeination treatment markedly reduced caffeine concentration and slightly reduced trigonelline concentration in the coffee beans, whereas the concentrations of chlorogenic acids (chlorogenic acid, cryptochlorogenic acid, and neochlorogenic acid) were largely unchanged.

Methods: We included patients who underwent MAC for HSCT at the Shizuoka Cancer Center Stem Cell Transplantation between 2015 and 2019. We evaluated outcomes from the day before treatment initiation (transplant date: day 0) to day 42.
The cytohesin proteins, consisting of four closely related members (cytohesins-1, -2, -3, and -4), are a subfamily of the Sec7 domain-containing guanine nucleotide exchange factors for ADP ribosylation factors (Arfs), which are critical regulators of membrane trafficking and actin cytoskeleton remodeling. Recent advances in molecular biological techniques and the development of a specific pharmacological inhibitor for cytohesins, SecinH3, have revealed the functional involvement of the cytohesin-Arf pathway in diverse neuronal functions from the formation of axons and dendrites, axonal pathfinding, and synaptic vesicle recycling, to pathophysiological processes including chronic pain and neurotoxicity induced by proteins related to neurodegenerative disorders, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease. Here, we review the physiological and pathological roles of the cytohesin-Arf pathway in neurons and discuss the future directions of this research field.
