The existing evidence regarding structural neuroimaging alternations during the premorbid and prodromal stages of psychosis remains limited and inconsistent. Gaining a deeper insight into the morphological brain variations could potentially advance the early diagnosis of high-risk individuals for psychosis, thereby offering a clearer understanding of the underlying mechanisms that lead to the progression towards mental disorders, particularly schizophrenia. In our study, we conducted comprehensive face-to-face clinical interviews, psychiatric symptom assessments, and neurocognitive evaluation for 25 first-episode patients with schizophrenia (FEP), 35 first-degree relatives of schizophrenia patients (FDR), and 22 healthy controls (HC).

Purpose: The study aims to understanding the mental health literacy level of urban and rural residents in Guangdong Province, the first major province in China, and its influencing factors is crucial.

Methods: A multi-stage stratified equal-volume random sampling method was adopted in October-December 2022 to select permanent residents aged 18 years and above in Guangdong Province for the questionnaire survey, which consisted of a general demographic information questionnaire and a national mental health literacy questionnaire. Rao-Scott -test with correction based on sampling design, independent samples -test and binary multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed.

Loneliness-the subjective experience of social disconnection-is now widely regarded as a health risk factor. However, whether the associations between loneliness and multiple diseases are consistent with causal effects remains largely unexplored. Here we combined behavioural, genetic and hospitalization data from the UK Biobank to examine the associations of loneliness with a wide range of non-overlapping diseases.

Background: High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is widely recognized for its protective effects against cognitive decline. However, recent studies have presented conflicting results, with some suggesting no significant cognitive benefits or even an increased risk of dementia associated with high HDL-C levels. For those who suffer from depression, the cognitive benefits of HDL-C may be diminished or reversed.

Aims: To assess the validity and internal reliability of the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ) among patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) and to explore the network structure of Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) among MDD patients in China.

Methods: Eligible individuals were recruited from a large tertiary hospital in Guangdong Province. Trained researchers conducted in-person interviews and administered self-report questionnaires, including demographics, medical information, and psychological assessments.

Background: Individuals with schizophrenia tend to have negative coping styles and low levels of self-esteem, but it is unclear whether coping styles and self-esteem levels are altered in people in the prodromal phase of psychosis.

Aims: The study was designed to assess the role of coping style and self-esteem in the context of different phases of schizophrenia.

Methods: Recurrent Schizophrenia (ReSch), first-episode schizophrenia patients (FEP), genetic-high risk for psychosis (GHR) patients, and healthy controls (HC) (40 per group) were subjected to in-person clinical interviews.

Article Synopsis
  • * Among participants, 44.4% of UHR individuals developed schizophrenia over two years, with significant genetic markers identified, including neurexin-1 and various dopamine receptor genes linked to this conversion.
  • * The findings suggest that further research with larger sample sizes is necessary to better understand the genetic pathways contributing to the transition from UHR to schizophrenia.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how mental health issues and everyday life affect violent behavior in people with schizophrenia.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 1,664 patients to see how their symptoms and real-life functioning connected before and after violence.
  • Results showed that after experiencing violence, connections between symptoms and daily life weakens, suggesting that this could be an early warning sign for future violence.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between gene polymorphisms and expression of NRG1, DAOA, and DISC1 in individuals at ultra-high risk (UHR) for psychosis in the Chinese Han population, as prior research had not explored this demographic.
  • Researchers analyzed samples from 18 UHR individuals, their first-degree relatives, first-episode psychosis cases, and healthy controls, examining various genetic markers and mRNA levels.
  • Findings indicate that variations in the DAOA gene are linked to UHR susceptibility, and there are interactions between the NRG1, DAOA, and DISC1 genes; notably, NRG1 expression was significantly reduced in the UHR group compared to controls, suggesting its potential role as a

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to explore the density of choroidal vessels in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) using advanced imaging techniques, as previous research indicated retinal impairments in this condition.
  • The results showed that MDD patients had significantly lower choroidal vessel volume and stroma volume when compared to healthy controls, indicating a possible connection between choroidal structure and MDD.
  • However, the study was cross-sectional, limiting conclusions about how choroidal vascular structures may change over time in individuals with MDD.

Background: For decades, video game-related behaviors have been investigated in different psychologic research, much of whose attention has been paid to video game addiction (VGA), while the differences between VGA and social media addiction (SMA) should have deserved more attention. In addition to detecting common risk factors of VGA, one core question is whether social inclination (individualism or collectivism) matters.

Object: The objectives of this study were to clarify the prevalence of VGA and SMA,, identify the influencing factors of VGA, and clarify the relationships between VGA and adolescents' individualism-collectivism inclination.
