Background: The hallmark of hyperparathyroidism is hypersecretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH) which results in hypercalcemia and hypophosphatemia. While hypercalcemia due to malignancy is often brought about by PTH-related protein in adults, PTH-producing tumors are quite rare in clinical practice. Additionally, from the point of embryology, it is very difficult to examine ectopic PTH-producing tissue such as ectopic parathyroid glands.

Recently, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) before curative surgery has become a standard treatment for clinical stage II or III EC patients. Some EC patients receive a complete response (CR) by NAC; thus, curative surgery may be unnecessary for such patients.

Some transcription factors (TFs) have been reported to be associated with these subtypes. However, the mechanisms by which these molecular signatures of PCs are established remain unknown.

De novo lipogenesis is a highly regulated metabolic process, which is known to be activated through transcriptional regulation of lipogenic genes, including fatty acid synthase (FASN). Unexpectedly, we find that the expression of FASN protein remains unchanged during larval development from the second to the third instar larval stages (L2 to L3) when lipogenesis is hyperactive. Instead, acetylation of FASN is significantly upregulated in fast-growing larvae.

In Papilio polytes, female-limited Batesian mimicry is thought to be regulated by a ∼130 kb inversion region (highly diversified region: HDR) containing 3 genes, UXT, U3X, and doublesex (dsx) which switches non-mimetic and mimetic types. To determine the functional unit, we here performed electroporation-mediated RNAi analyses (and further Crispr/Cas9 for UXT) of genes within and flanking the HDR in pupal hindwings.

Patients with uncomplicated pseudoaneurysms can be managed with ultrasound-guided techniques. However, for complicated pseudoaneurysms, surgical repair of the artery is mandatory.

We analysed the psychometric properties and adequacy of the theoretical model of Japanese version of the GPIUS2.
Methods: This study included 291 healthy Japanese adults (median age = 25 years; interquartile range 22-43 years; 128 women) who completed the GPIUS2 and several other questionnaires evaluating the degree of PIU, self-esteem, depression, and impulsivity.
Background: Diabetes is known to be associated with anastomotic leakage (AL) after esophagectomy. However, it is unknown whether well-controlled diabetes is also associated with AL.
Methods: We conducted a two-center retrospective cohort database study of patients who underwent oncological esophagectomy (2011-2019).
Pancreatic cancer is recalcitrant to treatment as it is highly metastatic and rapidly progressive. While observing the behavior of human pancreatic BxPC-3 cells using an optical assay device called TAXIScan, we found that several synthetic pyrazole and pyrimidine derivatives inhibited cell migration. One such compound, 14-100, inhibited metastasis of fluorescence-labeled BxPC-3 cells, which were transplanted into the pancreas of nude mice as a subcutaneously grown cancer fragment.

However, stroke heterogeneity among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) remains unstudied. We hypothesized that the contribution of SLE to stroke might vary according to its subtype and investigated the associations of SLE and various stroke subtypes.

The resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) of the triple-network model has been described inconsistently in PIU. Using resting-state fMRI (rsFMRI) and hypothesizing a lower rsFC between default mode (DMN) and central executive networks (CEN) but a higher rsFC within the salience network (SN), this study scrutinized the neural substrates of PIU adolescents.

We herein investigated the relationship between cStage and prognosis of colon cancer (CC) patients, particularly focusing on the presence or absence of clinical lymph node (LN) metastasis.
Method: This was a retrospective study on 840 consecutive patients with colon adenocarcinoma who underwent radical resection at our institution between January 2007 and December 2018.
Background: Although single-port mediastinoscopic radical esophagectomy is ultimate minimally invasive surgery for esophageal cancer without thoracotomy or the thoracoscopic approach, the high incidence of recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) palsy remains a pivotal clinical issue.
Methods: This study included 41 patients who underwent single-port mediastinoscopic radical esophagectomy with mediastinal lymphadenectomy between September 2014 and March 2022. Among these, continuous nerve monitoring (CNM) for RLN was done in 25 patients (CNM group), while the remaining 16 patients underwent without CNM (non-CNM group).
Tissue stem cells are vital for organ homeostasis and regeneration owing to their ability to self-renew and differentiate into the various cell types that constitute organ tissue. These stem cells are formed during complex and dynamic organ development, necessitating spatial-temporal coordination of morphogenetic events and cell fate specification during this process. In recent years, technological advances have enabled the tracing of the cellular dynamics, states, and lineages of individual cells over time in relation to tissue morphological changes.

However, the association between the use of adhesion barriers and infections after cesarean section remains unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the association.

Therefore, a system that enables the handling of non-adherent cells in solutions in the same manner as that of adhering cells during medium exchange, exposure to chemicals, washing, and staining in imaging applications would be useful. Here, we report a 'Cell Dome' platform in which non-adherent cells can be enclosed and grown in the cavities of about 1 mm diameter and 270m height.

ANOs comprise a family of plasma membrane proteins that mediate ion transport and phospholipid scrambling and regulate other membrane proteins in numerous cell types. Previous studies have elucidated the roles and mechanisms of ANO5 activation in various cancer types.

However, the processing efficiency of this approach has not been evaluated. This study aimed to evaluate RBC depletion and nucleated cell subpopulation recovery rates in third-party RBC-manipulated BM products processed with the COBE or Optia.

Increasing evidence suggests that alloantigen reactions in lung tissue play a central role in the pathogenesis of IPS and BOS; however, the mechanism is not fully understood. Several clinical and experimental studies have reported that intra-bone marrow (IBM)-SCT provides high rates of engraftment and is associated with a low incidence of acute GVHD.

Methods: The ECD cluster was quantitatively analyzed by calculating the centroid of the cluster and maximum distance (the largest distance between all dipoles). The "primary hub" was determined by the highest eigencentrality.
Age-related changes in the posterior extensor muscles of the cervical and lumbar spine have been reported in some studies; however, longitudinal changes in the thoracic spine of healthy subjects are rarely reported. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate changes in the cross-sectional areas (CSAs) of posterior extensor muscles in the thoracic spine over 10 years and identify related factors. The subjects of this study were 85 volunteers (mean age: 44.
