A feasibility study on predicting cow calving time over 40 h in advance using heart rate and financial technical indicators.

In dairy farming, the uncertainty of cow calving date often imposes waiting costs for days on farmers. Improving the accuracy of calving date prediction would mitigate these costs, specifically before a few days of the event. We monitored and analyzed the heart rate patterns of eight pregnant cows in the days leading up to calving using a dedicated monitoring device.

Background: Valganciclovir (VGCV) is administered at a dose of 16 mg/kg 2 times daily for 6 months to treat symptomatic congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections. During the treatment period, approximately 20% of the patients developed grade 3 or higher neutropenia. Currently, information on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of ganciclovir, an active metabolite of VGCV, in infants is limited.

[Development of an Odor Evaluation Method for Citrus Unshiu Peel Using an Electronic Nose Based on the Intensity of Per Unit Length (INPULTH)].

Although odor is an important indicator of herbal medicine quality, an objective odor evaluation method remains undiscovered. Quantitative measurement using previous methods is complicated as Citrus Unshiu Peel (Chimpi) emits an odor when broken. To establish odor evaluation methods for herbal medicines using chimpi as an example, we developed a reproducible method for breaking samples and an objective odor evaluation method using an electronic nose (e-nose).

Background: Meconium peritonitis is a noninfectious chemical peritonitis that occurs following fetal intestinal perforation and leakage of meconium into the abdominal cavity. Because of the lack of appropriate animal models, its pathophysiology has not yet been elucidated. We aimed to create a neonatal mouse model of meconium peritonitis using human meconium slurry (MS).

Pathological features of intrathoracic histiocytic sarcoma in an Amami spiny rat (Tokudaia osimensis).

A 4-year 9-month-old Amami spiny rat reared in a zoo died following a history of anorexia, weight loss, and respiratory distress. At necropsy, neoplastic tissues were found along the pleura and adhered to the thoracic wall, heart, and lungs. Histologically, the tumor was composed of diffuse, patternless sheets of large round to polygonal neoplastic cells with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm, and multinucleated giant cells were often present.

Evaluating the Non-Invasive Measurement of Apple Aroma Using Electronic Nose Device through Comparison with Direct Mass Spectrometry, Sugar Content, and Ripeness Measurements.

To compare apple aroma intensities, apples were analyzed from the calyx side (on the opposite side of the stem) using an electronic nose (e-nose) sensor device and direct mass spectrometry. The results indicated that the sensor value tended to increase in accordance with the total intensity of apple aroma components measured by direct mass spectrometry. In addition, the e-nose sensor values for apple aroma did not correlate with the sugar content and ripeness measurements using optical sensors.

Influence of temperature on hatching success of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis): Implications for spawning availability of warm habitats.

Exploring the effects of water temperature on egg development in skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) has substantial implications for evaluations of wild spawning habitats. In the present study, we examined the hatching success and duration as a function of temperature from 21 to 33°C under captive environments. A high hatching rate of over 50% between 23 and 31°C was observed, with the shortest hatching duration at 31°C.

Pharmacokinetics of Brexpiprazole, Quetiapine, Risperidone, and Its Active Metabolite Paliperidone in a Postpartum Woman and Her Baby.

Background: Brexpiprazole is a second-generation antipsychotic approved in Japan in 2018; however, information on placental passage and breast milk transfer remains limited. In this report, the patient, a 30-year-old pregnant woman with schizophrenia, was medicated with brexpiprazole, risperidone, and quetiapine.

Methods: The study used high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to determine the concentrations of brexpiprazole, quetiapine, risperidone, and its active metabolite (paliperidone) in maternal and neonatal plasma, cord venous plasma, and breast milk.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of a self-monitoring intervention to promote an increase in physical activity, as measured by step count, and reduce sedentary behavior in older people covered by the long-term care insurance system (LTCI) in Japan.
