We report a case of non-bacterial cystitis that occurred after administration of atezolizumab, an antibody against programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1). This cystitis was considered an immune-related adverse event (irAE). A 67-year-old woman with advanced breast cancer (cT4bN1M1, cStage IV) was treated with atezolizumab and nanoparticle albumin-bound (nab) paclitaxel.

Mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney composed mainly of solid components: A case report.

Mixed epithelial and stromal tumor (MEST) is a relatively rare lesion of mixed epithelial and mesenchymal origin, consisting of epithelial components that form cysts and stromal cells that are positive for estrogen and progesterone receptors. The present case was a 54-year-old female who presented with hematuria. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a 41 x 30 mm tumor in the right kidney, with the tumor protruding outward in the direction of the renal pelvis.

Background: Percutaneous intervertebral-vacuum polymethylmethacrylate injection (PIPI) is a minimally invasive procedure for low back pain in elderly patients with degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS). Patients with DLS often have radiculopathy as a result of foraminal stenosis in addition to low back pain. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiologic results of PIPI for foraminal stenosis with radiculopathy in elderly patients with DLS.

Improved method for avian influenza virus isolation from environmental water samples.

Environmental water-targeted surveillance of migratory aquatic birds at overwintering sites is potentially one of the most effective approaches for understanding the ecology of avian influenza viruses (AIVs). In this study, we improved the method for AIV isolation from environmental water samples by making a minor modification to our previously reported process. We experimentally demonstrated that the AIV recovery efficiency of the modified method was 10-100-fold higher than that of the original method.

The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) evaluates the risk of malnutrition-related complications, and the Barthel Index (BI) evaluates older patients' functional status. The study aim was to determine the risk factors for both death and decreased BI within 1 year after hip fracture.

We performed a total activation mapping, which included a range from the ventricular to atrial waves during right ventricular pacing. Safety and Clinical Benefits of Laryngeal Closure in Patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

This study evaluated the safety of laryngeal closure and post-surgical changes in swallowing function of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and proposed an appropriate surgical strategy for patients with ALS. Clinical and surgical data of 26 consecutive patients with ALS who underwent laryngeal closure at Nagoya University Hospital in Japan between 2003 and 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Changes in swallowing functions were evaluated before and approximately 1 month post-surgery using Neuromuscular Disease Swallowing Status Scale (NdSSS), and Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS).

We synthesized Bi-loaded poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK)-based plastic scintillators for high-energy X-ray detection. PVK, triphenylbismuth (BiPh), and 1,4-bis(2-methylstyryl)benzene (bis-MSB) served as the host polymer, heavy metal compound, and organic phosphor, respectively. The emission peaks at approximately 440 nm in the photoluminescence emission and X-ray-excited radioluminescence spectra of the synthesized scintillators are attributed to bis-MSB.

Since it is known that substance P is involved in the response to peripheral noxious stimuli in the spinal cord, we investigated the effects of intrathecally administered substance P at L6-S1 levels on colorectal motility in rats that were anesthetized with α-chloralose and ketamine. Intrathecally administered substance P enhanced colorectal motility, even after transection of the thoracic spinal cord at the T4 level.
