The anisotropic mechanical properties of fiber-embedded biological tissues are essential for understanding their development, aging, disease progression, and response to therapy. However, accurate and fast assessment of mechanical anisotropy in vivo using elastography remains challenging. To address the dilemma of achieving both accuracy and efficiency in this inverse problem involving complex wave equations, we propose a computational framework that utilizes the traveling wave expansion model.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the results of combination therapy involving bone grafting and two different resorbable collagen membranes in 1-, 2- and 3-wall infrabony defects.

Methods: A total of 174 patients with infrabony defects (≥ 7 mm periodontal probing depth) were randomized to receive deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) with either a native porcine non-crosslinked collagen membrane (N-CM, control, n = 87) or a novel porcine crosslinked collagen membrane (C-CM, test, n = 87). Clinical parameters, including periodontal probing depth (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and gingival recession (GR), were recorded at baseline, 12 weeks, and 24 weeks.

Two-dimensional (2D) nanoarchitectonics involve the creation of functional material assemblies and structures at the nanoscopic level by combining and organizing nanoscale components through various strategies, such as chemical and physical reforming, atomic and molecular manipulation, and self-assembly. Significant advancements have been made in the field, with the goal of producing functional materials from these nanoscale components. 2D nanomaterials, in particular, have gained substantial attention due to their large surface areas which are ideal for numerous surface-active applications.

Aim: This study aims at analyze the current status and influencing factors of missing appointments in patients with periodontitis after supragingivgy scaling, and to explore the measures to reduce the rate of missing appointments, so as to provide a reference for the prevention of periodontitis and oral health promotion.

Methods: This study adopted convenience sampling method to select 204 patients who made appointments for revisits in Grade III and Grade A stomatological hospitals in Guizhou Province from May 2021 to May 2022 as the study objects, and conducted the investigation by general data questionnaire, patient satisfaction questionnaire and modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS).

Results: The rate of missing appointments in patients with periodontitis was 64.

Background The prognostic value of coronary CT angiography (CTA)-derived quantitative flow ratio (CT-QFR) remains unknown. Purpose To determine the prognostic value of CT-QFR in predicting the long-term outcomes of patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) in comparison with invasive coronary angiography (ICA)/SPECT and to determine the influence of prior percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on the prognostic value of CT-QFR. Materials and Methods In this secondary analysis of the prospective international CORE320 study, 379 participants who underwent coronary CTA and SPECT within 60 days before ICA between November 2009 and July 2011 were included for follow-up.

Article Synopsis
  • Nerves play a crucial role in maintaining the balance and development of epithelial stem cells, particularly during tooth development in rats.
  • A study showed that when sensory nerves were damaged, it led to issues like impaired mineralization and thinner enamel in the rats' incisors.
  • Key enamel-related factors, such as ameloblastin and amelogenin, were found to be less expressed after nerve injury, suggesting that sensory nerves are important for proper enamel formation and mineralization.

Synthesizing medical images while preserving their structural information is crucial in medical research. In such scenarios, the preservation of anatomical content becomes especially important. Although recent advances have been made by incorporating instance-level information to guide translation, these methods overlook the spatial coherence of structural-level representation and the anatomical invariance of content during translation.

Background Traditional energy-integrating detector CT has limited utility in accurately quantifying liver fat due to protocol-induced CT value shifts, but this limitation can be addressed by using photon-counting detector (PCD) CT, which allows for a standardized CT value. Purpose To develop and validate a universal CT to MRI fat conversion formula to enhance fat quantification accuracy across various PCD CT protocols relative to MRI proton density fat fraction (PDFF). Materials and Methods In this prospective study, the feasibility of fat quantification was evaluated in phantoms with various nominal fat fractions.

Background: White matter (WM) fiber tracts in the brainstem communicate with various regions in the cerebrum, cerebellum, and spinal cord. Clinically, small lesions, malformations, or histopathological changes in the brainstem can cause severe neurological disorders. A direct and non-invasive assessment approach could bring valuable information about the intricate anatomical variations of the white matter fiber tracts and nuclei.
