Temperature is a critical environmental factor in ecosystems, and understanding the integrated response of different tissues to heat stress is essential for elucidating the study, we conducted a comparative transcriptome analysis of three tissues, hepatopancreas, gill, and muscle, of the Chinese shrimp (Fenneropenaeus chinensis) under heat stress conditions. The results reveal that the three tissues exhibit distinct gene expression patterns, which may imply a certain degree of interaction or coordination among them. Specifically, under heat stress, genes related to amino acid synthesis and utilization were down-regulated in both hepatopancreas and gill, leading to the inhibition of various metabolic pathways including carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, and nucleic acid metabolism.

Noncoding microRNAs tend to evolve within introns of coding genes that provide them with transcriptional opportunity. As an outcome of natural selection, the intragenic position of microRNAs is crucial for their expression, evolution, and functional cooperation with the host gene. Therefore, understanding the evolution of intragenic microRNA structures may bring novel insights into genetic and phenotypic evolution.

Background: Due to sexual dimorphism in growth of penaeid shrimp, all-female cultivation is desirable for the aquaculture industry. 17β-estradiol (E2) has the potential to induce the male-to-female sex reversal of decapod species. However, the mechanisms behind it remain poorly understood.

The aim of this study was to investigate the promotion of linoleic acid (OLA)-induced myofibrillar protein (MP) oxidation by boiling treatment. The effect of the boiling treatment on grass carp MP oxidation induced by OLA was investigated. The total sulfhydryl content, fluorescence intensity, and amino acid content were reduced with the increasing OLA concentration after the boiling treatment, while the boiled oxidized MP's carbonyl content (4.

Article Synopsis
  • Most studies have looked at how individual sources of pectin or polyphenols affect starch digestion, but their interactions in digestive fluids are less understood.
  • This study investigates how pectin influences starch digestion when paired with mulberry fruit powder, mulberry polyphenol extract, and rutin—the main component of the extract.
  • Results indicate that while pectin initially inhibits α-amylase activity (αAA) when combined with these compounds, it later enhances it; however, the pectin-mulberry polyphenol combination consistently inhibits αAA more effectively than either compound alone.

The application of whole-genome resequencing in genetic research is rapidly expanding, yet the impact of sequencing depth on data quality and variant detection remains unclear, particularly in aquaculture species. This study re-sequenced 31 () samples at over 28× sequencing depth using the Illumina NovaSeq system and down-sampled the data to simulate depths from 0.5× to 20×.

Manipulation C-C coupling pathway is of great importance for selective CO electroreduction but remain challenging. Herein, two model Cu-based catalysts, by modifying Cu nanowires with Ag nanoparticles (AgCu NW) and Ag single atoms (AgCu NW), respectively, are rationally designed for exploring the C-C coupling mechanisms in electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CORR). Compared to AgCu NW, the AgCu NW exhibits a more than 10-fold increase of C selectivity in CO reduction to ethanol, with ethanol-to-ethylene ratio increased from 0.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract which affects millions of individuals worldwide. Despite advancements in treatment options, there is increasing interest in exploring natural interventions with minimal side effects. Cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cabbage, and radishes, contain bioactive compounds known as glucosinolates (GLSs), which have shown promising effects in alleviating IBD symptoms.

Dietary polyphenols (DPs) have garnered growing interest because of their potent functional properties and health benefits. Nevertheless, the antioxidant capabilities of these substances are compromised by their multifarious structural compositions. Furthermore, most DPs are hydrophobic and unstable when subjected to light, heat, and varying pH conditions, restricting their practical application.

Single atom catalysts (SACs) are promising non-precious catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Unfortunately, the ORR SACs usually suffer from unsatisfactory activity and in particular poor stability. Herein, we report atomically dispersed manganese (Mn) embedded on nitrogen and sulfur co-doped graphene as an efficient and robust electrocatalyst for ORR in alkaline electrolyte, realizing a half-wave potential (E) of 0.

Polyphenols in mulberry fruit have potential anti-diabetic effects by targeting the gut microbiota. This study investigated how mulberry polyphenols (MPs) influence the microbiota of the small and large intestines and their effects on type 2 diabetes symptoms. The results showed lower microbiota densities in the small intestine.

Vibriosis is one of the most serious diseases that commonly occurs in aquatic animals, thus, shaping a steady inherited resistance trait in organisms has received the highest priority in aquaculture. Whereas, the mechanisms underlying the development of such a resistance trait are mostly elusive. In this study, we constructed vibriosis-resistant and susceptible families of the Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei after four generations of artificial selection.

is one of the main causative agents leading to acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease, the severe bacterial disease that occurs during shrimp aquaculture. Hemocytes play important roles during infection. Previously, we found that there were few differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between hemocytes from -resistant and -susceptible shrimp before infection.

  • The research focuses on the MyoD gene in Pacific white shrimp, an important aquaculture species, highlighting its role in muscle growth and development, which is underexplored in crustaceans.
  • A specific sequence of the MyoD gene (LvMyoD) was identified, showing strong conservation and similarities to MyoD genes in other species, including vertebrates, with expression peaking in the early stages of muscle development.
  • The study revealed that knocking down LvMyoD negatively impacts shrimp growth and muscle structure, indicating its critical function in muscle protein synthesis and potential as a target for shrimp breeding improvements.

Electrochemical carbon dioxide/carbon monoxide reduction reaction offers a promising route to synthesize fuels and value-added chemicals, unfortunately their activities and selectivities remain unsatisfactory. Here, we present a general surface molecular tuning strategy by modifying CuO with a molecular pyridine-derivative. The surface modified CuO nanocubes by 4-mercaptopyridine display a high Faradaic efficiency of greater than 60% in electrochemical carbon monoxide reduction reaction to acetate with a current density as large as 380 mA/cm in a liquid electrolyte flow cell.

Photonic integrated circuits with compact design have opened possibilities for the development of optical computing systems; however, the overuse of photonic components in optical designs has slowed the progress of dense integration. In this paper, we propose an ultra-compact optical full-adder based on directed logic and microring resonators. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed structure requires fewer optical components than any other current designs, resulting in a significantly reduced footprint 59.
