Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of two botulinum toxin injection methods—pretarsal combined with preseptal (PT-PS) versus conventional pretarsal (PT)—for treating benign essential blepharospasm (BEB).
  • Conducted as a prospective nonrandomized clinical trial with 95 injections across 45 patients, the researchers measured outcomes using the Jankovic Rating Scale and Blepharospasm Disability Index.
  • Results indicated that PT-PS injections resulted in faster response times, longer effects, higher patient satisfaction, and a similar safety profile compared to PT injections, making PT-PS a more favorable option for BEB treatment.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are widely used as brominated flame retardants in the manufacturing industry, belonging to persistent organic pollutants in the environment. Planarians are the freshwater worms, with strong regenerative ability and extreme sensitivity to environmental toxicants. This study aimed to evaluate the potential acute comprehensive effects of PBDE-47/-209 on freshwater planarians.

The effects of malt protein removal by Neutrase using Canadian and French commercial malts (Malt 1 and Malt 2) on mashing efficiency, and production of violate compounds during fermentation were determined using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), headspace-solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis (HS-SMPE-GC-MS). HPLC results showed that for Malt 1 containing lower free- and total-β-amylase but higher α-amylase enzyme activity, Neutrase significantly increased the content of maltose, glucose and maltotriose, whereas for Malt 2, only glucose content increased. For Malt 1, the increased glucose/maltose ratio after Neutrase addition led to higher ethanol concentration than that with no Neutrase (4.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated a special marker called H3K27me3 and its related enzymes in young mice at two different ages: 7 days and 2 months old.
  • Researchers looked at these markers in various tissues like the brain, lungs, and skin using special techniques.
  • The results showed that H3K27me3 was present in all tested tissues, but the amounts of related enzymes varied depending on the age and type of tissue in the mice.
