Objectives: To assess whether dementia is an independent predictor of death after a hospital emergency department (ED) visit by older adults with or without a COVID-19 diagnosis during the first pandemic wave.
Method: We used data from the EDEN-Covid (Emergency Department and Elderly Needs during Covid) cohort formed by all patients ≥65 years seen in 52 Spanish EDs from March 30 to April 5, 2020. The association of prior history of dementia with mortality at 30, 180 and 365 d was evaluated in the overall sample and according to a COVID-19 or non COVID diagnosis.
Objectives: To determine whether combining biomarkers of inflammatory response and clinical scales can improve risk stratification of patients with suspected infection in a hospital emergency department (ED).
Material And Methods: Prospective observational study of ED patients treated for infections. We collected the following information on arrival: demographic and baseline clinical data, comorbidities, the focus of infection, and values for the following inflammatory biomarkers: leukocyte counts, and C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, and midregional proadrenomedullin (MR-proADM) concentrations.
Objectives: To identify possible predictors of seizure cluster or status epilepticus (SE) and to evaluate whether these patients receive greater interventions in emergency departments.
Methodology: We conducted a secondary analysis of the ACESUR Registry, a multipurpose, observational, prospective, multicentre registry of adult patients with seizures from 18 emergency departments. Clinical and care-related variables were collected.

Objective: Functional assessment is part of geriatric assessment. How it is performed in hospital Emergency Departments (ED) is poorly understood, let alone its prognostic value. The aim of this paper was to investigate whether baseline disability to perform basic activities of daily living (BADL) was an independent prognostic factor for death after the index visit to the ED during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and whether it had a different impact on patients with and without diagnosis of COVID-19.

Objectives: To compare the ability of 3 frailty scales (the Clinical Frailty Scale [CFS], the Functional Index - eMergency [FIM], and the Identification of Seniors at Risk [ISAR] scale) to predict adverse outcomes at 30 days in older patients discharged from hospital emergency departments (EDs).
Material And Methods: Secondary analysis of data from the FRAIL-Madrid registry of patients aged 75 years or older who were discharged from Madrid EDs over a period of 3 months in 2018 and 2019. Frailty was defined by a CFS score over 4, a FIM score over 2, or an ISAR score over 3.
Introduction: COVID-19 and obesity relationship has been extensively studied since the COVID-19 outbreak, proving obesity is a risk factor. This study aims to broaden the available information about this association and to evaluate the economic impact of obesity and the COVID-19 disease combination.
Methods: This retrospective study analyzed a sample of 3,402 patients admitted to a Spanish hospital with available body mass index (BMI) data.
Background: The Constant-Murley Score (CMS) is one of the most employed tools for assessing shoulder function. It was first devised in 1987 for the English population and is now widely used internationally. However, it had yet to be cross-culturally adapted and validated to Spanish, which is the world's second-most native language.

Methods: EPOCONSUL 2021 is a cross-sectional audit that evaluated the outpatient care provided to patients with a diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in respiratory clinics in Spain with prospective recruitment between April 15, 2021, and January 31, 2022.
Results: A total of 45 hospitals participated in the 2021 audit and 4.
Objectives: The rates of undiagnosed and late-diagnosed human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection are high. Screening for HIV infection in hospital emergency departments (EDs) could offer a way to increase the number of diagnoses. Our aim was to analyze whether universal hospital ED screening for HIV is efficient.

Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study with 30 participants without a family history of sporadic AD (FH-) and noncarriers of ApoE ɛ4 (ApoE ɛ4-) as a control group and 34 participants with a family history of sporadic AD (FH+) and carriers of at least one ɛ4 allele (ApoE ɛ4+).
Background: SARS-CoV-2 was a global pandemic. Children develop a mild disease and may have a different rate of seroconversion compared to adults. The objective was to determine the number of seronegative patients in a pediatric cohort.

The prevalence and incidence of heart failure (HF) have been increasing in recent years as the population ages. These patients show a distinct profile of comorbidity, which makes their care more complex. In recent years, the PROFUND index, a specific tool for estimating the mortality rate at one year in pluripathology patients, has been developed.

Objective: To analyze the initial findings in chest X-rays of patients with RT-PCR positive for SARS-CoV-2, and to determine whether there is a relationship between the severity of these findings and the clinical and laboratory findings.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective study analyzed the relationship between initial chest X-rays and initial laboratory tests in symptomatic adults with nasopharyngeal RT-PCR results positive for SARS-CoV-2 seen at our center between February 29 and March 23, 2020. Among other radiologic findings, we analyzed ground-glass opacities, consolidations, linear opacities, and pleural effusion.
Objetive: To perform a score with early clinical and radiological findings after a TBI that identifies the patients who in their subsequent evolution are going to undergo DC.
Method: Observational study of a retrospective cohort of patients who, after a TBI, enter the Neurocritical Section of the Intensive Care Unit of our hospital for a period of 5 years (2014-2018). Detection of clinical and radiological criteria and generation of all possible models with significant, clinically relevant and easy to detect early variables.

Introduction: This manuscript analyzes the exacerbations recorded by the Prevexair application through the daily analysis of symptoms in high-risk patients with COPD and explores its usefulness in assessing clinical stability with respect to that reported in visits.
Patients And Methods: This study is a multi-centre cohort of COPD patients with the exacerbator phenotype who were monitored over 6 months. The Prevexair application was installed on the patients' smartphones.

Purpose: To report predictive factors for therapeutic response to anti-VEGF in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) in daily clinical practice in our patient population.
Methods: Retrospective cohort study including 56 patients (69 eyes) with nAMD treated with anti-VEGF, followed for at least two years between February 2012 and April 2018. Patients received three intravitreal anti-VEGF (bevacizumab) injections (loading dose) and were monitored and treated according to a PRN regimen.

Background: In recent years, mobile health (mHealth)-related apps have been developed to help manage chronic diseases. Apps may allow patients with a chronic disease characterized by exacerbations, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), to track and even suspect disease exacerbations, thereby facilitating self-management and prompt intervention. Nevertheless, there is insufficient evidence regarding patient compliance in the daily use of mHealth apps for chronic disease monitoring.
