Background: Changes in the standard postmastectomy radiation therapy (PMRT) dosage schedule have led to the development of the hypofractionated radian therapy technique (HRT) that allows patients to receive fewer radian therapy sessions with higher doses in each session. Additionally, advancements in technology introduced the intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) technique to the widely used three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy. This review aimed to investigate the influence of radiation therapy protocols that may alter the postoperative outcomes of autologous free flap reconstruction.

A meta-analysis of perfusion parameters affecting weight gain in ex vivo perfusion.

Background: Ex vivo machine perfusion (EVMP) has been established to extend viability of donor organs. However, EVMP protocols are inconsistent. We hypothesize that there is a significant relationship between specific parameters during EVMP and perfusion outcomes.

Methods: A total of 7179 medical charts of patients who underwent nononcological breast reduction at the Cleveland Clinic Health System from January 2001 to October 2023 were screened to identify whether the procedure was a secondary reduction. Patient charts were then reviewed to extract demographic, surgical, and outcome data.

Functional and Psychosocial Outcomes following Innervated Breast Reconstruction: A Systematic Review.

Unlabelled: With the incidence of breast cancer, breast cancer survival rates, and prophylactic mastectomies all increasing, efforts to optimize breast reconstruction and improve quality of life are becoming increasingly important. Nerve coaptation has been investigated for its potential to remedy the clinical and psychosocial deficits in newly reconstructed breasts. The purpose of this review is to gauge the efficacy of nerve coaptation during breast reconstruction in creating worthwhile benefits in both objective and subjective dimensions of sensation.

Malignant Transformation in Chronic Stage IV Sacral Pressure Ulcer: A Case of Marjolin Ulcer.

A Marjolin ulcer (MU) is a rare type of skin cancer that most commonly occurs in burns and other traumatic scars, and it also may arise in chronic, poorly healing wounds. Typically, MU presents as a squamous cell carcinoma and has a high rate of metastasis resulting in poor prognosis. The mechanism of the aggressive and metastatic potential of MU has not been clearly defined.
