Berberine improves intralipid-induced insulin resistance in murine.

Insulin resistance (IR) is a major metabolic risk factor even before the onset of hyperglycemia. Recently, berberine (BBR) is found to improve hyperglycemia and IR. In this study, we investigated whether BBR could improve IR independent of hyperglycemia.

Increased plasma osteoprotegerin concentrations in Type 1 diabetes with albuminuria.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to determine the plasma osteoprotegerin (OPG) levels in Type 1 diabetic patients with albuminuria.

Methods: A total of 80 Type 1 diabetic subjects and 30 control subjects were enrolled. Diabetic subjects were divided into normoalbuminuric group, microalbuminuric group and macroalbuminuric group according to urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER) and serum creatinine measurements.
