Immunotherapy holds great promise for the treatment of aggressive and metastatic cancers; however, currently available immunotherapeutics, such as immune checkpoint blockade, benefit only a small subset of patients. A photoactivatable toll-like receptor 7/8 (TLR7/8) nanoagonist (PNA) system that imparts near-infrared (NIR) light-induced immunogenic cell death (ICD) in dying tumor cells in synchrony with the spontaneous release of a potent immunoadjuvant is developed here. Environmental governance by photothermal materials especially for the separation of organic pollutants and regeneration of freshwater afford growing attention owing to their special solar-to-heat properties. Here, we construct a special functional nanosphere composed of an internal silica core coated by a thin carbon layer encapsulated plasmonic bimetallic FeCoO spinel (SiO@CoFe/C) by a facile self-assembled approach and tuned calcination. Through combining the advantage of bimetallic Fe-Co and carbon layer, this obtained nanosphere affords improved multiple environmental governing functions including peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation to degrade pollutants and photothermal interfacial solar water evaporation.

The present study examined the process of L2 orthographic learning in bilinguals with distant L1-L2 orthographies. Chinese-English bilinguals with various English proficiency levels were trained with novel L2 words during a reading task. In contrast to higher proficient learners, those with lower L2 proficiency exhibited increased effects of length, frequency, and lexicality across exposures and at-chance recognition of trained words.

The frog-in-the-pan (FIP) phenomenon suggests that investors are more sensitive to abrupt price changes than gradual price changes in the stock market. Based on the cognitive-evolutionary model of surprise and the reinforcement learning model, this paper provides a new explanation for the FIP phenomenon in that this phenomenon could be explained by the elicitation of surprise emotion. We predict that when a change substantially and abruptly occurs, the significant prediction error triggers participants' surprise, which makes participants more sensitive to the change.

The lack of solid-phase media limits the portability of colorimetric sensing platforms. In this study, a series of transparent polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogels encapsulated antimony tin oxide nanoparticles (ATO NPs) and 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) were developed as the solid-phase sensing media for glucose and uric acid. Under the conditions of HO and UV light, the hydrogel presented a multicatalytic ability (photo Fenton-like and peroxidase-like activities), which accelerated the oxidation of TMB, turning the hydrogel from colorless to blue and finally enhancing the detection signal.

The effect of curdlan gum (CG), gellan gum (GG), and xanthan gum (XG) on the quality characteristics of hot-dry noodles (HDN) was investigated. The rheology properties were used to evaluate the quality of the dough, the textural, viscosity, cooking characteristics and water states were investigated to study the quality changes of HDN. Three microbial polysaccharides were found that it could improve the quality of wheat flour and significantly increase the starch viscosity of HDN and delay the water migration rate of HDN.

Histamine produced via the secretion of histidine decarboxylase by the bacteria in fish muscles is a toxic biogenic amine and of significant concern in food hygiene, since a high intake can cause poisoning in humans. This study proposed a fluorometric and colorimetric dual-mode specific method for the detection of histamine in fish, based on the fluorescence labeling of a histamine specific aptamer via the quenching and optical properties of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Due to the fluorescence resonance energy transfer phenomenon caused by the proximity of AuNPs and NaYF4:Ce/Tb, resulting in the quenching of the fluorescence signal in the detection system, the presence of histamine will compete with AuNPs to capture the aptamer and release it from the AuNP surface, inducing fluorescence recovery.
