Supramolecular host-guest complexes are studied in the gas-phase evaluating a new host molecule for fullerenes (C and C). The new host molecule is a double -heterotriangulene-[5]helicene (NTH), consisting of two -heterotriangulene (-HTA) blades embedded into a hexabenzocoronene-like backbone with helically curved topology. Host-guest complexes of [1:1]˙, [1:2]˙, [2:1] and [2:3] stoichiometry and charge state are formed by electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS).

Background And Objective: The Working Group on Ethics in Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine of the Austrian Society for Anesthesiology Resuscitation and Intensive Care Medicine (ÖGARI) already developed documentation tools for the adaption of therapeutic goals 10 years ago. Since then the practical implementation of Comfort Terminal Care in the daily routine in particular has raised numerous questions, which are discussed in this follow-up paper and answered in an evidence-based manner whenever possible.

Results: The practical implementation of pain therapy and reduction of anxiety, stress and respiratory distress that are indicated in the context of Comfort Terminal Care are described in more detail.

The supramolecular chemistry of cycloparaphenylenes (CPPs) is characterized by the ability of the ring system to undergo both concave and convex π-π interactions. As a consequence, ring-in-ring complexes can be formed in which the CPP serves as the host as well as the guest molecule ([ + ]CPP⊃[]CPP). Gas-phase complexes of [n]helicenes with n=6, 7 and 8 and the silver(I) cation are generated utilizing electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). The inodilator levosimendan, in clinical use for over two decades, has been the subject of extensive clinical and experimental evaluation in various clinical settings beyond its principal indication in the management of acutely decompensated chronic heart failure. Critical care and emergency medicine applications for levosimendan have included postoperative settings, septic shock, and cardiogenic shock. As the experience in these areas continues to expand, an international task force of experts from 15 countries (Austria, Belgium, China, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the USA) reviewed and appraised the latest additions to the database of levosimendan use in critical care, considering all the clinical studies, meta-analyses, and guidelines published from September 2019 to November 2021.

[n]Cycloparaphenylenes ([n]CPPs) with n=5, 8, 10 and 12 and their noncovalent ring-in-ring and [m]fullerene-in-ring complexes with m=60, 70 and 84 have been studied by direct and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization ((MA)LDI) and density-functional theory (DFT). LDI is introduced as a straightforward approach for the sensitive analysis of CPPs, free from unwanted decomposition and without the need of a matrix. A healthy woman with acute onset of pulmonary oedema and severely depressed left ventricular function underwent endomyocardial biopsy under the clinical suspicion of fulminant myocarditis. While awaiting the results of biopsy, the situation deteriorated to Interagency Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support (INTERMACS) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was implanted. Finally, immunohistochemistry in biopsy specimen corresponded to fulminant lymphocytic myocarditis, although active myocarditis was excluded.
