Methods: The Plan for the Transition to a New Normality, approved on April 28, contained four sequential phases with progressive increase in socio-economic activities and population mobility.

Aims: To test whether communicating cardiovascular diseases (CVD) risk using a novel risk assessment tool (Heart Age) will be able to motivate a population to adopt healthier lifestyles and improve CVD risk profile over the use of a traditional percentage-based tool.
Methods: A single-blind randomized intervention study was carried out in a Caucasian population. A total of 3153 subjects were randomly allocated to one of three study groups: control (conventional medical advice was given to the subjects), Framingham REGICOR (10-year percentage risk score, calibrated to Spanish population was given to the subjects), or Heart Age group (Heart Age tool was administered to the subjects).
Background & Aims: To examine the antiviral activity of boceprevir, a hepatitis C virus (HCV) protease inhibitor, in HCV genotype (G) 2/3-infected patients.
Methods: We assessed boceprevir and telaprevir activity against an HCV G2 and G3 isolates enzyme panel, in replicon, and in phenotypic cell-based assays. Additionally, a phase I study evaluated the antiviral activity of boceprevir monotherapy (200mg BID, 400mg BID, or 400mg TID) vs.
Aims: To test the feasibility of a school-based intervention, which combines an incentive-driven physical activity program with lifestyle lectures, and its potential beneficial outcome on children's metabolic parameters.
Methods: We conducted a 6-month pilot intervention in two high schools in Mallorca, Spain, consisting of a program which involved free supervised exercise sessions and nutritional lectures, where children received credit points as a reward for the hours spent exercising and attendance to the lectures. The credit-earned points obtained were exchanged for gifts.
Implementation of an intensive, multidisciplinary weight loss program in patients with morbid obesity is reported. This program is based on behavioral changes, lifestyle intervention, medication, and group therapy sessions. Our objective is to show that the results achieved with this two-year weight loss program will be at least similar to those achieved with bariatric surgery in patients with morbid obesity.

By and large, their roles conform to a conflict over provision of limited maternal resources to offspring, such that paternally expressed imprinted genes in offspring generally promote growth of the fetus, while maternally expressed imprinted genes tend to restrict it. XLalphas is only expressed from the paternal allele, whereas G(s)alpha is biallelically expressed in most tissues. A free radical scavenging activity guided fractionation of the polar extract from roots of Limonium brasiliense (Plumbaginaceae) led to the isolation of five active compounds including: myricetin 3-O-alpha-rhamnopyranoside (1), (-)-epigallocatechin 3-O-gallate (2), (-)-epigallocatechin (3), (+)-gallocatechin (4) and gallic acid (5). These and other chemical constituents are reported for the first time for this species. The characterization of these compounds was achieved by spectroscopic methods (1H NMR, 13C NMR and UV).

In the present study, we have investigated gender differences in rat liver mitochondrial oxidative metabolism. Total mitochondrial population (M) as well as the heavy (M1), medium (M3), and light (M8) mitochondrial fractions obtained by means of differential centrifugation steps at 1,000, 3,000, and 8,000 g, respectively, were isolated. Gender- and site-related differences in the lipolytic capacity, at the different steps of the adrenergic pathway, in gonadal and inguinal white adipose tissue (WAT), were assessed by studying alpha2A-adrenergic receptor (AR), beta3-AR and hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) protein levels, and by determining the lipolytic response to different agents. Gonadal WAT showed a lower alpha2A/beta3-AR ratio, a greater lipolytic capacity in response to AR agonists, and higher HSL activity and protein levels than inguinal WAT. In female rats, we found greater alpha2A-AR protein levels and alpha2A/beta3-AR ratio compared to their male counterparts, but, on the other hand, a higher lipolytic response to beta-AR agonists and a greater lipolytic capacity at the postreceptor level, including a more activated HSL protein.

The adrenergic control was assessed by studying the levels of beta(3)- and alpha(2A)-adrenergic receptors (AR) and by determining the lipolytic response to norepinephrine (beta(1)-, beta(2)-, beta(3)-, and alpha(2)-AR agonist), isoprenaline (beta(1)-, beta(2)-, and beta(3)-AR agonist), and CGP12177A (selective partial beta(3)-AR agonist but beta(1)- and beta(2)-AR antagonist) together with post-receptor agents, forskolin and dibutyryl cyclic AMP. The female rats that had greater oxygen consumption showed higher UCP1 content, a higher multilocular arrangement, and both longer cristae and higher cristae dense mitochondria in BAT indicating heightened thermogenic capacity and activity; this picture is accompanied by a more sensitive beta(3)-AR to norepinephrine signal (EC(50) 10-fold lower for CGP12177A) and a lower expression of alpha(2A)-AR than male rats.
