Structural and magnetic phase transitions in EuLaFe(BO) (x = 0, 0.18).

The crystal structures and hyperfine magnetic parameters of EuFe(BO) and mixed EuLaFe(BO) were studied over a wide temperature range in order to analyze correlations of the structural and magnetic features and the phase transitions in multiferroic compounds of the rare-earth iron borate family. The chemical compositions of the crystals are reported from X-ray fluorescence analysis. The crystal structures of EuFe(BO) and EuLaFe(BO) were determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction in the temperature range 25-500 K.

Sequential reaction of 2-chlorobenzaldehyde, cyanothioacetamide, and malononitrile dimer in the presence of an excess of -methylmorpholine resulted in the formation of -methylmorphlinium salt of 2-amino-4-(2-chlorophenyl)-6-(dicyanomethyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile. The resulting salt reacts under Mannich conditions with primary amines and an excess of formaldehyde to form substituted 2-alkylamino-4-(dicyanomethylene)-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.

Iron(IV) complexes with tetraazaadamantane-based ligands: synthesis, structure, applications in dioxygen activation and labeling of biomolecules.

4,6,10-Trihydroxy-1,4,6,10-tetraazaadamantane (TAAD) has been shown to form a stable Fe(IV) complex having a diamantane cage structure, in which the metal center is coordinated by three oxygen atoms of the deprotonated ligand. The complex was characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, HRMS, NMR, FT-IR, Mössbauer spectroscopy and DFT calculations, which supported the d configuration of iron. The Fe(IV)-TAAD complex showed excellent performance in dioxygen activation under mild conditions serving as a mimetic of the thiol oxidase enzyme.

Crystal structure of bismuth-containing NdFe(BO) in the temperature range 20-500 K.

Neodymium iron borate NdFe(BO) is an intensively studied multiferroic with high electric polarization values controlled by a magnetic field. It is characterized by a large quadratic magnetoelectric effect, rigidity in the base plane and a rather strong piezoelectric effect. In this work, the atomic structure of (NdBi)Fe(BO) was studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction in the temperature range 20-500 K (space group R32, Z = 3).

A preliminary study of bilateral color mapping of pig bladder vasculature demonstrates potential for acute hemi-ischemic events.

Background: Chronic ischemia is a known risk factor for the development of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and bladder hypocontractility. Less is known, however, about the impact of acute ischemia. Classic teaching suggests that collateral circulation is robust in the bladder and, therefore, loss of a single source of blood flow should have no deleterious effect.

Revealing the Structure of Transition Metal Complexes of Formaldoxime.

Aerobic reactions of iron(III), nickel(II), and manganese(II) chlorides with formaldoxime cyclotrimer (tfoH) and 1,4,7-triazacyclononane (tacn) produce indefinitely stable complexes of general formula [M(tacn)(tfo)]Cl. Although the formation of formaldoxime complexes has been known since the end of 19th century and applied in spectrophotometric determination of d-metals (formaldoxime method), the structure of these coordination compounds remained elusive until now. According to the X-ray analysis, [M(tacn)(tfo)] cation has a distorted adamantane-like structure with the metal ion being coordinated by three oxygen atoms of deprotonated tfoH ligand.

[Preoperative planning of mini-laparotomy in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms].

Objective: To improve postoperative outcomes in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms undergoing abdominal aorta replacement via mini-laparotomy by preoperative planning of localization and optimal length of incision.

Material And Methods: There were 40 patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms who underwent abdominal aorta replacement via mini-laparotomy. Preoperative planning of mini-laparotomy was carried out in the main group (=17), empirical mini-laparotomy - in the control group (=23).

Crystal structure and structural phase transition in bismuth-containing HoFe(BO) in the temperature range 11-500 K.

An accurate single-crystal X-ray diffraction study of bismuth-containing HoFe(BO) between 11 and 500 K has revealed structural phase transition at T = 365 K. The Bi atoms enter the composition from BiMoO-based flux during crystal growth and significantly affect T. The content of Bi was estimated by two independent methods, establishing the composition as (HoBi)Fe(BO).

Probing chemical space of tick-borne encephalitis virus reproduction inhibitors with organoselenium compounds.

Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), a member of the genus Flavivirus, is the leading cause of arboviral neuroinfections in Europe. Only a few classes of the nucleoside and non-nucleoside inhibitors were investigated against TBEV reproduction. Paving the way to previously unexplored areas of anti-TBEV chemical space, we assessed the inhibition of TBEV reproduction in the plaque reduction assay by various compounds derived from cyanothioacetamide and cyanoselenoacetamide.

[The efficacy of pharmacological preconditioning in carotid endarterectomy].

Objective: To assess the efficacy of pharmacological preconditioning with actovegin in carotid endarterectomy.

Material And Methods: The study was based on the results of surgical treatment of 80 patients with hemodynamically significant uni- and bilateral lesions of carotid arteries. Half of the patients was operated immediately and others after pharmacological preconditioning with actovegin in dose of 1200 mg/daily during 1,5 months.

Design and synthesis of pyrido[2,1-b][1,3,5]thiadiazine library via uncatalyzed Mannich-type reaction.

This Research Article describes the synthesis of an over 700-member library of (8R/8S)-3-R-8-aryl-6-oxo-3,4,7,8-tetrahydro-2H,6H-pyrido[2,1-b][1,3,5]thiadiazin-9-carbonitriles by uncatalyzed Mannich-type reaction of N-methylmorpholinium (4R/4S)-4-aryl-3-cyano-6-oxo-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridin-2-thiolates with a set of primary amines and excessive HCHO. The scope and limitations of the reaction were studied. Starting thiolates were obtained in yields of 53-82% by multicomponent reaction of aromatic aldehydes, cyanothioacetamide, 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione (Meldrum's acid), and N-methylmorpholine, followed by heterocyclization of the resulting Michael adducts.

Inhibitors of tick-borne flavivirus reproduction from structure-based virtual screening.

Flaviviruses form a large family of enveloped viruses affecting millions of people over the world. To date, no specific therapy was suggested for the infected people, making the treatment exclusively symptomatic. Several attempts were performed earlier for the design of fusion inhibitors for mosquito-borne flaviviruses, whereas for the tick-borne flaviviruses such design had not been performed.

[Surgical treatment of pathological kinking of the internal carotid artery].

The study was aimed at improving surgical policy in management of patients presenting with pathological tortuosity of the internal carotid artery. The study comprised a total of 105 patients with pathological kinking of the internal carotid artery undergoing a total of 117 reconstructive operations. In order to determine the indications for the operation the patients were subjected to triplex scanning, transcranial Dopplerography and monitoring of blood flow in the median cerebral artery, contrast-enhanced computed tomography or magnetic resonance tomography.

[Aortic-bicarotid-subclavian trifurcation bypass grafting with a synthetic prosthesis].

The authors describe herein a case of successful surgical management of a 55-year-old male patient presenting with a multifocal atherosclerotic lesion of brachiocephalic arteries. The diagnosis was confirmed by DS with CDM, MSCT angiography. Intraoperatively revealed were up to 80% stenosis of the ostium of the left common carotid artery and up to 80% stenosis of the brachiocephalic trunk.

Double-blind, controlled, crossover trial of inositol versus fluvoxamine for the treatment of panic disorder.

Only 70% of patients respond to current treatments for panic disorder, and many discontinue drugs because of side effects. myo-Inositol, a natural isomer of glucose and a precursor for the second-messenger phosphatidyl-inositol system, has previously been found superior to placebo in the treatment of depression, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but a direct comparison with an established drug has never been performed. A double-blind, controlled, random-order crossover study was undertaken to compare the effect of inositol with that of fluvoxamine in panic disorder.

[Ultrasonic diagnosis of complications after bypass operations in lower extremities arteries].

After reconstructive vascular operations the patients need dynamic control and non-invasive monitoring. The purpose of the study was to reveal the potential of duplex scanning (DS) in assessment of bypasses function and diagnosis of postoperative complications. 148 patients after aorto-femoral and femoro-popliteal bypass, including patients with late postoperative complications (shunt thrombosis, stenosis or spurious aneurysm of anastomosis) were examined.
