Biodegradable fixation of ankle fractures. Complications in a prospective study of 25 cases.

In a prospective study, 25 displaced ankle fractures were treated with one or two biodegradable rods (Biofix), sizes 3.2 or 4.5 mm.

Experimental evaluation of furosemide renography in unobstructed and partially obstructed upper urinary tracts in pigs.

To evaluate the reliability and the constancy of the furosemide renography an experimental evaluation of the test has been performed. A standardized unilateral partial proximal ureteral obstruction was applied to 11 pigs. Preoperatively and again weekly in the three weeks following obstruction a furosemide renogram (FR) was done.

Regulation of renal pelvic pressure by diuresis and micturition.

The influence of the voiding cycle and diuresis on the hydrodynamic pressures of the renal pelvis in the multicalyceal kidney of miniature pigs has been examined. Identification of the pressure patterns characteristic of the renal pelvis with an undisturbed pelviureteric and ureterovesical junction was emphasized. The frequency and amplitude of contractions in the renal pelvis were measured bilaterally.

Activity of insulin receptor kinase and glycogen synthase in skeletal muscle from patients with chronic renal failure.

To examine subcellular mechanisms behind the pathogenesis of peripheral insulin resistance in chronic uremic patients, insulin receptor function and glycogen synthase activity were studied in biopsies of skeletal muscle obtained during renal transplant surgery in 9 non-diabetic uremic patients. The results were compared with values obtained in an age- and sex-matched group of subjects with normal renal function, undergoing surgery for urological or gynecological diseases. The recovery of solubilized, wheat germ agglutinin-purified insulin receptors from skeletal muscle was increased among the uremic patients: 49.

Diuresis renography and simultaneous renal pelvic pressure in hydronephrosis.

We investigated 23 hydronephrotic kidneys in 10 male and 12 female patients (mean age 32 years) with diuresis renography and simultaneous, continuous renal pelvic pressure measurement to compare isotope washout with pelvic pressure changes. No correlation was found between these 2 parameters. Of the kidneys 14 were investigated further by a standard Whitaker pressure flow study.
