It is difficult for the scientific community to develop a nonenzymatic sensing platform for extremely sensitive and selective detection of specific biomolecules, antibiotics, food adulterants, heavy metals, One of the most significant chemotherapy drugs, 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu), which is used to treat solid malignancies, has a fluorine atom in the fifth position of the uracil molecule. Recognizing the secure and effective dosing of drugs for chemotherapy continues to be a critical concern in cancer disease management. The maintenance of the optimal 5-Fu concentration is dependent on the presence of 5-Fu in biofluids.

From May 2015 to June 2018, we conducted a PrEP demonstration project at two hospitals and four community-led clinics in Bangkok and Pattaya. HIV-negative, MSM and TGW aged ≥18 years old, reporting sex without a condom, were offered daily PrEP. Participants received HIV testing and completed a computer-based questionnaire at enrollment, 6 and 12 months.

Cancer is a life-threatening disease, resulting in nearly 10 million deaths worldwide. There are various causes of cancer, and the prognostic information varies in each patient because of unique molecular signatures in the human body. However, genetic heterogeneity occurs due to different cancer types and changes in the neoplasms, which complicates the diagnosis and treatment.

The current meta-analysis aims to explore the effect of metformin use on vitamin B12 deficiency in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and the factors associated with it. This meta-analysis followed the Meta-analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (MOOSE) guidelines and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. We searched PubMed and EMBASE from January 1, 2010, to October 31, 2022, to collect the studies that reported the effect of metformin on the deficiency of vitamin B12 in patients with T2DM and the factors associated with it.

Cytotoxic drugs are highly efficacious and also have low therapeutic index. A great degree of caution needs to be exercised in their usage. To optimize the efficacy these drugs need to be given at maximum tolerated dose which leads to significant amount of toxicity to the patient.

Objective: Acute Invasive Fungal Rhinosinusitis is a rare condition which recently has gained attention due to its increased occurrence in the post COVID-19 patients past the second wave. The current study retrospectively evaluates the occurrence of Acute Invasive Fungal Rhinosinusitis (Mucormycosis) in post COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease-19) patients.

Methods: A descriptive study included patients diagnosed with Acute Invasive Fungal Rhinosinusitis (Mucormycosis) after recent COVID-19 infection.

Post autopsy reconstruction (PAR) plays a vital role in the external appearance of dead bodies while handing over to grieving family members. Autopsy surgeons should not only be restricted to autopsy findings/techniques but should also give importance to PAR. Autopsy incision includes various conventional incisions like I, Y, and Modified Y-shaped.

Background: Low Magnesium (Mg) dietary intake has been associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Furthermore, in patients with T2DM, hypomagnesemia is associated with worst glycaemic control. Bariatric surgery (BS) remains the most effective treatment in severe obesity and also provides resolution/improvement of T2DM.

Background: There is little data modeling the impact of deemed consent legislation (eligible individuals who do not register their decision to decline to be a donor are presumed to consent after death) on outcomes for individuals with kidney failure.

Objective: To estimate the change in life-years (LYs) and quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) resulting from different changes in the rate of deceased donor kidney transplantation associated with deemed consent legislation and health system transformation.

Design: Dynamic Decision Analytic Model.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess HPV expression in oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD) and investigate its link to dysplasia grades using specific immunohistochemical markers (p16 and Anti-E6 oncoprotein).
  • - Clinical parameters like age, gender, and lesion type were analyzed, and biopsies were performed to evaluate HPV 16 and HPV 18 presence through immunohistochemistry in selected OPMD cases.
  • - Results indicated that only 37% of cases showed Anti-E6 oncoprotein positivity and 10% showed p16 positivity, with significant associations found between p16 expression, age, and histopathological characteristics, highlighting the value of these tests for detecting high-risk HPV in oral lesions

Background: Chromosomal rearrangements play an important role in infertility. Carriers of chromosomal rearrangements have a lower chance of producing normal or balanced gametes due to abnormal segregation of chromosomes at meiosis, which leads to recurrent spontaneous abortions and infertility. Preimplantation genetic testing for structural chromosome rearrangements (PGT-SR) is offered to couples who have balanced chromosomal rearrangements in order to select embryos with a balanced karyotype prior to implantation, thereby increasing the chances of pregnancy.

Background: Weight gain is commonly observed during and after breast cancer treatment and is associated with poorer survival outcomes, notably in women with oestrogen-receptor positive disease. The aim of this qualitative study was to investigate the experiences and perceptions of oestrogen-receptor positive (ER +) female breast cancer patients (BCPs) regarding weight management behaviours during and after treatment. Secondly, to gain insight into the experiences of healthcare professionals (HCPs) regarding the provision of weight management advice to patients undergoing treatment.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the association of diet quality with fasting glycemia, insulinemia, and insulin resistance in a cross-sectional sample of adults from families at high risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) from six European countries, taking into account their socioeconomic status (SES).

Methods: Baseline data from non-diabetic adults from the Feel4 Diabetes study were used and diet was assessed by the Healthy Diet Score (HDS). Insulin resistance (IR) was determined by homeostasis model assessment of IR (HOMA-IR).

Design: Repeated cross-sectional representative survey; Setting: Minnesota.

Subjects: Adult Minnesotans from the 2007 and 2018 Minnesota Adult Tobacco Survey (combined N=9,258).

Thymidine Kinase 1 (TK1) plays an important role in DNA precursor synthesis and serum TK1 activity has been used as a biomarker for prognosis and therapy monitoring of different malignancies. AroCell has developed a dual monoclonal antibody ELISA for determination of TK1 protein in clinical samples. The purpose of the study is to validate the ELISA analytically in relation to the gold standard, [3H]-deoxythymidine (dThd) phosphorylation assay for TK1 activity using sera from patients with different malignancies.
