Background: Induction of labor (IOL) is common with one in four labors being induced in the United States (US). IOL has been associated with lower birth satisfaction. Video education can address gaps in education and promote anticipatory guidance.

Corrective surgical procedures are the recommended treatment option for a thoracic angle exceeding 50° and a lumbar major curve of 40°. Over the past few years, dynamic growth modulation implants have been developed as alternatives to permanent fusion.

Methods: A list of eligible departments performing pituitary adenoma surgery was created.
Hormone-secreting adenomas are treated in many neurosurgical centers within Europe. The goal of the survey is to understand variance in practice management of pituitary tumors amongst neurosurgical centers. A list of departments performing pituitary surgery was created.

There is no current consensus or guidelines for perioperative care that includes possible complication management. This study aims to determine current practice across European neurosurgical centres.

However, it remains unclear how medical students evaluate the practical year in orthopaedics and traumatology (Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie; O & U) and whether it has an impact on becoming an O & U specialist.
Method: We analysed data of 146 medical students (46,7% female) who completed the placement in O & U.
Background: Recently, a new disease phenotype characterized by supra-normal left ventricular ejection fraction (snLVEF) has been suggested, based on large datasets demonstrating an increased all-cause mortality in individuals with an LVEF > 65%. The underlying mechanisms of this association are currently unknown.
Methods: A total of 1367 patients (352 women, mean age 63.
Introduction: The focus of medical-didactic research is the improvement of clinical-practical training. One way to support practical skills training in a time- and resource-saving way is to provide instructional videos. Often the freely available instructional videos do not meet didactic or content requirements.

Case reports indicate an association between infections with influenza A viruses and reduced reproductive performance, although it has been difficult to experimentally reproduce the clinical outcome of poor reproductive performance. The aim of the present longitudinal field study was to compare the reproductive performance parameters before and after the implementation of vaccination against the influenza A (H1N1)pdm09 virus in sow herds infected with pandemic influenza A virus.

The present study will clarify how students perceived their medical clerkship in the field of surgery.
Methods: A nationwide online survey carried out in 2012 was able to recruit 9079 participants, and contained questions about the completed curricular internships.
Background: Following recent studies underlining the differences between de novo and secondary anaplastic meningiomas and the prognostic value of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) promoter mutation, we decided to conduct a multicenter retrospective study to address these questions and determine specific prognostic factors in each of these 2 anaplastic meningioma subgroups.
Methods: Among the 68 meningioma cases initially selected, only 57 were confirmed as anaplastic meningiomas after centralized pathological review. TERT promoter mutation analysis was performed in all cases.
Background: Musculoskeletal conditions are the most frequent cause of long-term pain and disability. Scientifically funded, structured training would be highly desirable for all medical students and of great economic relevance for the health care system. The present article portrays the status quo of undergraduate training in orthopaedics and trauma surgery, with a comparison to the status quo of 2008.

Medical elective placements, in Germany known as "Famulatur", are sensitive interfaces between the theoretical university studies and the practical medical workplace. In this research project, the aim was to study how medical students perceive these types of placements and if it alters their decision making when planning their further career.

The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) adopted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) relies on a globally accepted framework for classifying problems in functioning and the influence of contextual factors. Its comprehensive perspective, including biological, individual and social aspects of health, enables the ICF to describe the whole health experience of persons with visual impairment.

In conjunction with another change in medical education, which allows medical students to freely select any German university hospital or academic teaching hospital for their one-year internship, these catalogues are a prerequisite for ensuring comparable training standards throughout Germany. The German licensing regulations provide no details regarding the contents or form of the logbooks but only mention a "training programme" in very general terms.

Purpose: To investigate coblation-induced volume reductions as a possible mechanism underlying nucleoplasty.
Introduction: Practical training on clinical cases and work with patients is one of the most important steps within the educational programme of undergraduates. Until now a general programme with specific learning targets for undergraduate training in orthopedic and trauma surgery is lacking.
Material And Method: In this article we present an educational skills programme developed by a national committee composed of specialists in the field of orthopaedic and trauma surgery.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the prenatal detection of four congenital heart defects (CHDs) and the image quality of five corresponding ultrasound planes among obese, overweight and normal-weight women.
Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of 54,846 pregnancies undergoing fetal echocardiography between 18 and 37 weeks of gestation in the years from 2000 to 2007. The women were categorized according to pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) as normal-weight (BMI < 25), overweight (BMI 25 - 29.
Objectives: To investigate whether there is a response bias in outcome studies after prenatal ultrasound and to quantify this potential effect by information source.
Materials And Methods: All normal ultrasound scans between week 17 and week 24 and 6 days performed in the years 2004 and 2005 were investigated. A multinomial logistic regression model was applied to investigate the association between responders' outcome (questionnaire, phone interview and inquiry to birth clinic) and the following explanatory variables: maternal age, smoking status, body mass index, congenital anomaly status, low birthweight and preterm deliveries.
Aim: The fusion of orthopaedic and trauma surgery into a combined specialty requires a new evaluation of postgraduate and undergraduate training. This study presents a structured analysis of the implementation possibilities for undergraduate training.
Method: After defining 3 implementation alternatives for both clinical training and last year electives, SWOT analyses were performed.
